  • Patent number: 7421370
Abstract: A scanning probe microscope (SPM) based measuring technique for measuring surface features of a sample fits a curve to a family of feature edge points acquired as a result of an SPM scan of the surface feature. If two curves are fit on opposed edges of the feature of interest, the maximum or minimum distance between those curves can be determined to ascertain a dimension of interest such as a maximum via width, a minimum line width, etc. The scan is preferably a relatively low-resolution scan in the Y direction, typically having 8-12 scan profiles passing through the feature of interest low-resolution, which is about half that typically used by prior techniques. The low-resolution scan can be performed relatively rapidly and with high repeatability. Repeatability is also higher than with prior techniques, and the level of repeatability is relatively insensitive to the resolution in the Y direction.

  • Publication number: 20080204361
Abstract: Video sources and inertial sensors are attached to a weapon and to goggles. A computer receives video images from the weapon- and goggles-mounted sources and inertial data from the sensors. The computer calculates a location for an image from the weapon-mounted source within an image from the goggles-mounted source using the inertial sensor data. The sensor-based location is checked (and possibly adjusted) based on a comparison of the images. A database contains information about real-world objects in a field of view of the goggles-mounted source, and is used to generate icons or other graphics concerning such objects.

  • Publication number: 20080203639
Abstract: With one known cable gripper device, when the gripper device contacts the outer surface of a submarine telecommunications cable, there is a problem of insufficient friction between the cable layers being acted on by the gripper, and/or insufficient adhesion between the cable layers along the cable from the gripper to the free end of the cable, and consequently there is a tendency for the protective outer sheath to be stripped from the core during recovery, with the result that the engaged end is lost. The cable grippers (100) of this invention are able to penetrate the outer protective layer and to grip the inner tensile strength core of cable.

  • Publication number: 20080201314
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention exploit the complementary and correlated information that is available across multiple channels of digital multimedia distribution, in order to ensure more efficient multimedia data access. One embodiment of the invention, directed to a method for generating a response to a specified request for information, is associated with multiple channels that are each adapted to carry and disseminate data content. The method comprises extracting data elements from each of the multiple channels, wherein each extracted data element pertains to one dimension of a plurality of correlation related dimensions. The method further comprises assigning each extracted data element to one of a plurality of correlation sets, wherein all the extracted data elements assigned to a particular set pertain to the same dimension, and each set is assigned data elements extracted from two or more different channels.

  • Publication number: 20080184199
Abstract: A computer implemented method, an apparatus, and a computer usable program product for rendering client-side logic in a webpage when the webpage is rendered is provided. A webpage development framework initiates a script component built in a component library of a webpage development framework, wherein the script component is subject to a lifecycle of the webpage development framework. The webpage development framework defines at least one webpage attribute using at least one value-binding expression in the script component, wherein the at least one value-binding expression provides access to a server-side data model. The webpage development framework then evaluates the at least one value-binding expression, wherein the at least one value-binding expression comprises a current value for the server-side data model.

  • Publication number: 20080168751
Abstract: A method for securing a closure on a cylindrical container (such as a pharmaceutical vial) includes: positioning a closure in a first position, the closure being substantially centered via a centering assembly along an axis that is generally normal to the closure; translating the substantially centered closure along the axis to a second position; positioning a cylindrical container, the container being substantially centered via the centering assembly along the axis; translating the substantially centered closure along the axis to a third position in which it is adjacent the substantially centered container; and relatively rotating the closure and the container to secure the closure to the container. With such a method, both the closure and the cylinder can be centered along the axis, thereby registering them with each other for reliable securing.

  • Patent number: 7400653
Abstract: A playback system in a digital cinema network synchronizes the presentation of visual and aural content by deriving timing information for packets of information that are conveyed in video and audio data streams, examining the timing information to determine if any misalignment between the two data streams is likely to be perceptible and, if the misalignment is deemed to be perceptible, introducing delays into one or both data streams to correct the misalignment. If the audio data stream precedes the video data stream, the audio data stream is delayed by an integer number of audio sample periods. If the video data stream precedes the audio data stream, the video data stream is delayed by an integer number of video frames and the audio data stream is delayed by an integer number of audio sample periods.
