  • Patent number: 8096483
Abstract: A nozzle for a viscous liquid dispensing apparatus has a nozzle tip with a generally conical outer surface that tapers toward a dispensing orifice and forms an annular discharge air passage substantially parallel to the conical outer surface. Pressurized fluid is directed over the conical outer surface toward the dispensing orifice and thus, prevents viscous liquid dispensed from the dispensing orifice from being pulled back toward the nozzle tip and accumulating on the conical outer surface of the nozzle tip.

  • Publication number: 20080061080
Abstract: A device for dispensing a heated liquid, such as a hot melt adhesive, which includes a dispenser body adapted to dispense the heated liquid, a solenoid valve, and a pneumatic section including a housing coupled between the solenoid valve and dispenser body. The pneumatic housing is formed from a thermally insulating material which may include a thermoplastic polymer such as polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) or a fluoroplastic polymer to reduce heat transfer from the dispenser body through the pneumatic housing thereby thermally insulating the solenoid valve.

  • Publication number: 20060131348
Abstract: A device for dispensing a liquid includes a dispenser body having a liquid passage and an air passage. A valve stem is mounted in the dispenser body and reciprocates between an open position allowing liquid flow and a closed position preventing liquid flow. A pre-assembled unitary seal assembly is threadably engaged with the dispenser body and includes a housing having a bore therethrough. The housing includes a first and second seal members positioned within the bore that each form a dynamic seal with the valve stem to prevent air and liquid from leaking out of the air and liquid passages. The housing further includes a static seal between the outside of the housing and the dispenser body. The valve stem may be moved to an open position by pressurized air acting on a piston and moved to the closed position by a spring-return mechanism to selectively dispense the liquid.

  • Publication number: 20060097015
Abstract: A dispensing module for dispensing liquid includes a dispensing body having an inlet, a discharge outlet, and a flow channel therebetween having a valve seat. A needle having a valve element is mounted to the body and reciprocates therein between an open position, in which the valve element is disengaged from the valve seat thereby allowing liquid flow, and a closed position, in which the valve element is engaged with the valve seat thereby preventing liquid flow. A needle guide is mounted to the dispenser body and includes a passage for receiving a portion of the needle. A flexible seal includes a first end coupled to the needle guide and a second end coupled to the needle and moving therewith. An actuator is operatively coupled to the needle and moves the needle between the open and closed positions. The seal includes a central portion with an interior cavity that stretches and compresses as the needle reciprocates.

  • Publication number: 20050236438
Abstract: A dispenser includes an actuating section having a first moveable member and a hydraulic section coupled with the actuating section and having a second moveable member. The hydraulic section is adapted to dispense a liquid from an outlet therein and the actuating section is adapted to control dispensing of the liquid. An actuator assembly operatively couples the first moveable member with the second moveable such that the first moveable member is operative to move the second moveable member between open and closed positions for respectively starting and stopping flow of liquid from the outlet. The actuator assembly may include a pivoting lever arm having a first end operatively coupled with the first moveable member, a second end operatively coupled with the second moveable member and defining a fixed pivot point therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20050232797
Abstract: A pump for use with a dispensing unit of a liquid hot melt adhesive system, dispensing units including the pump, and a method of operating a pump for pumping a liquid like liquid hot melt adhesive. The pump has a piston movable within a pumping chamber for transferring liquid from an inlet to an outlet. A valve body, which is resiliently biased relative to the piston, is moved out of contact with the inlet when the piston moves in a first direction and into contact with the inlet when the piston moves in a second direction. When the piston is moved in the first direction, the resilient biasing actively lifts the valve body out of contact with the inlet for overcoming any attractive adhesive force acting between the valve body and inlet.

  • Publication number: 20050230423
Abstract: Applicators and dispensing systems for dispensing liquid hot melt adhesives and methods of dispensing liquid hot melt adhesives. The dispensing system supplies the liquid hot melt adhesive in a non-activated state to the applicator. The liquid hot melt adhesive is processed to modify at least one activation-sensitive property before dispensing onto a substrate. The property may exhibit a temperature dependence, in which case the applicator or other structure near the applicator heats the liquid hot melt adhesive immediately before application. The property may exhibit a pressure dependence, in which case the applicator or other structure near the application applies pressure and/or shear forces to the liquid hot melt adhesive shortly before dispensing. Alternatively, a property that is both temperature and pressure dependent may be modified.
