  • Publication number: 20190152591
Abstract: A braking system for a rotorcraft having a rotor hub assembly includes a generator having an armature mechanically coupled to the rotor hub assembly such that the armature is rotatable in response to rotation of the rotor hub assembly and a braking unit in selective electrical communication with the generator. The braking unit is adapted to apply an electrical resistance to rotation of the armature, thereby reducing a rotational speed of the rotor hub assembly.

  • Patent number: 10220942
Abstract: In some embodiments, a rotorcraft includes a fuselage having a rotor hub assembly protruding therefrom that is rotatable relative thereto. A generator having an armature is mechanically coupled to the rotor hub assembly such that the armature is rotatable in response to rotation of the rotor hub assembly. A braking unit is in selective electrical communication with the generator. The braking unit is adapted to apply an electrical resistance to rotation of the armature, thereby reducing a rotational speed of the rotor hub assembly.

  • Publication number: 20180251226
Abstract: The present invention includes a hybrid propulsion system for an aircraft comprising: one or more turboshaft engines that provide shaft power and are capable of providing thrust; at least one of: one or more electrical generators or one or more hydraulic pumps connected to a shaft of the one or more turboshaft engines; and at least two rotatable nacelles, each nacelle housing at least one of: one or more electric motors or one or more hydraulic motors each connected to a proprotor, wherein the electric motor is electrically connected to the electric generator, or the hydraulic motor is connected to the hydraulic pump, respectively, wherein the proprotors provide lift whenever the aircraft is in vertical takeoff and landing and stationary flight, and provide thrust whenever the aircraft is in forward flight.
