  • Patent number: 6802539
Abstract: A connector arrangement for use in a fuel system, the connector arrangement comprising a bridge member shaped for cooperation with at least first and second members to be connected to a housing, and a clamp arrangement for clamping the bridge member to the housing, the bridge member transmitting a clamping load from the clamp means to the first and second members. The invention also relates to a connector arrangement comprising a plurality of high pressure fuel pipes which are supplied with fuel from a common inlet passage, the common inlet passage being arranged, in use, to receive fuel from a high pressure fuel supply. Each of the pipes comprises one or more outlet region which is connectable with an inlet region of a respective injector forming part of the fuel system to permit high pressure fuel to be supplied to said injector.

  • Patent number: 6626148
Abstract: A fuel pump comprising a plunger member reciprocable within a plunger bore, wherein the plunger member is cooperable with a drive arrangement to cause inward movement of the plunger member within the plunger bore to increase fuel pressure therein. The pump comprises an accumulator for fuel, and a valve arrangement controlling communication between the plunger bore and the accumulator to permit fuel under pressure to flow into the accumulator. The pumping plunger is moved in an outward direction under the action of the fuel pressure within the accumulator. The invention also relates to a fuel injection system comprising the fuel pump.

  • Patent number: 6447263
Abstract: A fuel pump includes a pumping plunger reciprocable within a bore formed in a pump housing under the influence of a cam drive arrangement. The cam drive arrangement includes a reciprocable tappet member, a surface associated with the tappet member defining, in part, an auxiliary pumping chamber. A flow path interconnects the auxiliary pumping chamber and the bore such that fuel displaced from the auxiliary pumping chamber, in use, can be supplied through the flow path to the bore.

  • Patent number: 6394762
Abstract: A fuel pump comprising a first pumping plunger reciprocable within a first bore and defining, with the first bore, a first pumping chamber. A second pumping plunger is reciprocable within a second bore and defines, with the second bore, a second pumping chamber. The fuel pump further comprises a supply passage, whereby fuel from the first pumping chamber is supplied to the second pumping chamber. A drive arrangement is provided for driving the first and second pumping plungers in both an extending direction and a retracting direction such that when the drive arrangement drives the first pumping plunger in its retracting direction, the second pumping plunger is driven in its extending direction to expel fuel from the second pumping chamber, and when the drive arrangement drives the first pumping plunger in its extending direction, the second pumping plunger is driven in its retracting direction and fuel is expelled from the first pumping chamber through the supply passage to the second pumping chamber.

  • Patent number: 5810569
Abstract: A pump is disclosed having a variable cam arrangement under the influence of which a plunger is reciprocable. The variable cam arrangement comprises a plurality of cam rings which in an embodiment of the pump are relatively moveable in order to adjust the shape of the effective cam surface of the cam arrangement, and hence adjust the delivery rate of the pump.

  • Patent number: 5746180
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus for supplying fuel to a compression ignition engine comprising a rotary distributor member having a delivery passage which can register in turn with outlet ports connected to the injection nozzles of the engine. Fuel is supplied to the delivery passage from an accumulator under the control of a valve. The accumulator is charged with fuel by means of a high pressure pump which is a cam actuated pump and fuel is supplied to the high pressure pump by a low pressure pump. A valve is provided to control the output pressure of the low pressure pump so that the amount of fuel supplied to the high pressure pump can be varied for the purpose of controlling the fuel pressure within the accumulator. This pressure is sensed by a transducer which supplies a signal to a control system which controls the flow of electric current in the valve.
