  • Patent number: 4376670
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying to a surface of a continuous travelling web of paper a regular mesh-like pattern of thermoplastic stripes or strands. The plastic stripes or strands are extruded from nozzles supported a short distance above the travelling web of paper, the nozzles being disposed at the bottom of extrusion heads oscillating transversely to the direction of travel of the web of paper. While the pattern of plastic stripes or strands is applied to a surface of the paper, a vacuum or suction plate disposed against the other surface of the paper draws the plastic through the pores of the paper. The web of paper is subsequently passed through a pair of compression rolls and is air-dried.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4357789
Abstract: A rotary lawn mower cutter member in the form of a ring supporting a plurality of grass cutters each in the form of an helical torsion spring having a leg projecting beyond the periphery of the ring. The helical springs are mounted in holders removably attached to the ring such that, upon striking an obstacle, the spring projecting leg is yieldably deflected. The ring is connected to a hub by spokes and the hub is mounted on the end of the power output shaft of a rotary lawn mower.

  • Patent number: 4301961
Abstract: Paper provided on one surface with a mesh-like pattern, for example a diamond-shaped pattern, or reinforcing extruded plastic material. The extruded plastic material is applied to the paper surface in the form of a plurality of narrow thin stripes or strands adhering to the surface and penetrating through the mass of the paper due to the porosity of the paper and drawing of the plastic material through the paper during application of the plastic stripes or strands by applying vacuum to the opposite surface of the paper. The reinforced paper of the invention is particularly useful for making good-carrying bags commonly used for carrying groceries and other purchased articles from a store.

  • Patent number: 4182799
Abstract: A flame-retarding additive for foamed polystyrene is composed of 40 to 56 weight percent of halogenated hydrocarbon, 9 to 15 weight percent of antimony oxide, 14 to 22 weight percent of zinc borate, and 16 to 28 weight percent of hydrated alumina.

  • Patent number: 4096987
Abstract: A paper bag of the type found in grocery stores which is reinforced by a plurality of narrow pleats extending lengthwise of the bag, the bag having corner defining pleats and additional pleats intermediate the corners of the bag, the pleats being folded down and secured to the bag material, preferably with the intermediate pleats adhered in a manner which permits them to expand under load, the pleats adding strength to the bag and permitting the use of lighter weight paper stock, thereby achieving savings in paper requirements as well as increased bag strength.
