  • Patent number: 9880227
Abstract: An electrical device includes a memory storing a value indicative the remaining available rated capacity of one or more batteries. The stored value is changed in use to reflect reducing capacity. The initial stored value is chosen so that there is a very high (e.g. >99.9%) confidence that the one or more batteries will provide at least the capacity indicated by the initial stored value. This reduces the chance of failure during emergency procedures. The one or more batteries may be integral to the electrical device. An override facility is provided.

  • Patent number: 9806718
Abstract: An authenticatable device according to one embodiment includes a reconfigurable physical unclonable function (‘RPUF’) used with one parameter to recover sensitive values (e.g., a secret or a share of a secret) and a different parameter to encode and store values (e.g., challenge-helper pairs) correlated to the sensitive values. In another embodiment, a pair of RPUFs is used instead of a single PUF, with one RPUF used to recover sensitive values and the other RPUF used to encode and store correlated values. In still another embodiment, the desired expiration of values can be enforced by employing redundant RPUFs; when the device is powered on, one (or more than one, but less than all) of the RPUFs is selected and transitioned to a new configuration, invalidating any correlated values previously constructed using the old configuration, and the RPUF that was not reconfigured is used to recover the sensitive value(s) using the remaining correlated value(s).

  • Patent number: 9775505
Abstract: Disclosed is a laryngoscope insertion section having a curved superior surface and a curved inferior surface, and a channel extending from the proximal end the channel having an inferior internal surface with a greater curvature than the curvature of the inferior surface. The insertion section is compatible with laryngoscope hardware optimized for indirect viewing, yet enables direct viewing. Additionally, the distance between the inferior and superior surfaces is at a maximum within the intermediate portion, and enables the dimensions of the proximal and distal portions to be minimized. Thus, the intermediate portion, which is located in the patient's oral cavity in use, is provided with greatest depth and therefore strength where the greatest forces are received, whereas the distal and proximal portions are of reduced dimensions to as to minimize trauma to the patient's airway and mouth areas, respectively, in use.

  • Publication number: 20170275717
Abstract: A component of a crawler type machine is hardened by explosive depth hardening. The component is typically a crawler track shoe (10), and the roller path surface (11) of the track shoe and immediate underlying metal portion are pre-hardened by placing explosive charge (15) on the surface of the track shoe (10), and detonating the explosive charge to impart a high force on the surface and underlying metal portion for a short duration. The resultant shock wave causes high-velocity deformation at a high stress level, which leads to intensive development of plastic displacement at microscopic size. This increases the hardness and the strength of the surface and underlying metal portion. The surface (11) may be hardened by repetitive explosive depth hardening. Grooves (20) may also be formed in the roller path (11) to accommodate any flow of material.

  • Publication number: 20170270288
Abstract: A system, device, and method for binding metadata, such as information derived from the output of a biometric sensor, to hardware intrinsic properties by obtaining authentication-related metadata and combining it with information pertaining to a root of trust, such as a physical unclonable function. The metadata may be derived from a sensor such as a biometric sensor, the root of trust may be a physical unclonable function, the combination of the metadata and root of trust information may employ a hash function, and output from such a hash process may he used as an input to the root of trust. The combined information can he used in interactive or non-interactive authentication.

  • Publication number: 20170251916
Abstract: A laryngoscope insertion section comprising a tube guide including at least an inferior tube guiding member and a superior tube guiding member, wherein the thickness of the insertion section in a first region is less than the external diameter of the largest diameter endotracheal tube in an operating range of endotracheal tube sizes plus the thickness of the inferior tube guiding member plus the thickness of the superior tube guiding member. Typically, the insertion section comprises an elongate member and the tube guide is lateral of the elongate member. Typically, an endotracheal tube is retained within the tube guide in flexural tension.

  • Patent number: 9754633
Abstract: Memory short detection systems and methods include a power supply system with first power rail. A memory system includes a memory device connector that is configured to couple to a memory device and includes a first pin that is coupled to the first power rail and a second pin located adjacent the first pin. A short detection circuit is coupled to the first pin. The short detection circuit is configured to provide a first voltage from the first power rail, compare the first voltage to a first short detection voltage, and determine whether a short exists across the first pin and the second pin based on the comparing of the first voltage to the first short detection voltage. If a short is determined to exist across the first pin and the second pin, power is prevented from being provided to the memory device connector.

  • Publication number: 20170239130
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, computer-readable mediums, and methods for receiving, from a sensor array, three-dimensional sensory data associated with an environment of a person. The three-dimensional sensory data is converted into a two-dimensional representation. An obstacle is located within the environment based upon the sensory data. The obstacle is mapped onto the two-dimensional representation and the two-dimensional representation is mapped onto a plurality of actuators within a vibrotactile interface. One or more of a plurality of actuators are controlled based upon the mapping of the two-dimensional representation onto the plurality of actuators to provide tactile input to the person that represents a location of the obstacle.

  • Publication number: 20170199721
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a portable electronic communication device use device operational context to provide user trigger or command input. When user input is received from a user of the device, a set of user input options is selected based on an operational context of the device, including an identification of at least one running application. Each user input option is associated with a device action, and the received user input is mapped to a matching user input option within the selected set of user input options. The device action associated with the matching user input option is then executed.

  • Patent number: 9692790
Abstract: A system and method for updating, monitoring, and controlling applications on a workstation. The workstation includes a workstation management module configured to detect the launch or request to access a network by an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. The application server module can determine one or more policies or categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database. Once the application server module has the category or policy, it forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy that is associated with the application to control network access by the application.
