  • Patent number: 5408325
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the profile of a moving object has a cassette housing (161) having an aperture (31) for the passage of the object. At least two spaced light emitters (41, 47) and associated light detectors (42, 48) are positioned so that the light detectors and light emitters are spaced on opposing sides of the object such that a particular profile of the object may be measured. The light detector is, preferably, a linear array of elements. Means are provided for producing a warning if the profile is outside a predetermined tolerance.

  • Patent number: 5099115
Abstract: An inspection apparatus for internally inspecting tubular members has a body having an inspection window. Located inside the body is a camera, a laser and associated reflectives, one of the reflectives being rotatable by a motor such that a beam of light is directed through the window to illuminate an axial extending strip of the entire 360.degree. interior circumference of the tubular member. Light is reflected from the window and the tubular member to be focussed onto the camera lens. The images reflected by the window and the tubular member interior surface are correlated so that, for example, ovality of the tubular member may be detected. The data may also be compared with data stored in a computer.

  • Patent number: 4917487
Abstract: A projection apparatus has a strobed light source projecting light through a transparency, the transparency having one or preferably a plurality of narrow slits formed thereon so as to project a light pattern upon an object. The transparency is mounted in a holder which is arranged to be moved across the path of the light source by being mounted in a holder which is driven by a cam. The light source is arranged to be pulsed on when the holder is on a dwell point of the cam. If the transparency has a plurality of slits therein simultaneous display of multiple profiles on an object is performed to provide a large number of profiles in a minimal time span. In the disclosure, two different manners of driving the transparency in the holder are given.

  • Patent number: 4800104
Abstract: A method of inspecting the inner and/or outer circumferential surface of a tubular member includes the steps of moving an inspection apparatus along the tubular member and during movement along the member sequentially cleaning the inner and/or outer circumferential surface and optically scanning the entire 360.degree. of the inner and/or outer circumferential surface of the elongate member. The foregoing steps are performed in a single forward pass of the inspection apparatus along the tubular member and in a return pass the tubular member is applied with a corrosion preventing material which in the return pass is dried. An apparatus for performing the method is disclosed and the apparatus is capable of determining dimensional faults and inspecting for, inter alia, cavitation, reeding and scale inclusion.
