  • Publication number: 20230356360
Abstract: An abrasive article can include a body including a bond material, abrasive particles, and a plurality of pores, wherein the bond material can comprise a vitreous material. In one embodiment, an average particle size of the abrasive particles can be between 0.1 microns to 5 microns, and a porosity of the body may be between 40 vol % to 70 vol %, wherein the porosity may define an average pore size (D50) of at least 0.1 microns and not greater than 5 microns.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 27, 2023
    Publication date: November 9, 2023
Inventors: CECILE O. MEJEAN, John S. HAGAN, Linda S. BATEMAN, Alexandre TEMPERELLI, Taewook HWANG, Ramanujam VEDANTHAM, John M. GULCIUS, Maureen A. BROSNAN

  • Patent number: 11298791
Abstract: A method of removing material from a workpiece includes moving a coated abrasive over a receiving surface of a platen, the receiving surface having at least one opening configured for the flow of an ejection material therethrough, moving the platen and workpiece relative to each other to contact the coated abrasive to the workpiece and removing material from the workpiece, and controlling a flow pressure for the ejection material through the at least one opening during removing material from the workpiece, where the flow pressure of the ejection material can be adjusted based on at least one of the operation parameters such as a translation rate of the coated abrasive over the receiving surface, the weight of the coated abrasive, a material removal rate, a coefficient of friction between the coated abrasive and the platen, or a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 9999960
Abstract: A system for removing material from a workpiece comprising: a mounted-point grinding tool configured to move from a first position to a second position traversing at least a portion of a slot in a workpiece and removing material from a surface of the workpiece; and a first nozzle configured to deliver coolant to the mounted-point grinding tool, wherein the first nozzle is configured to move with the mounted point grinding tool from the first position to the second position so that the distance between the first nozzle and the mounted-point grinding tool remains substantially unchanged. A second nozzle can be mounted on the opposite side of tool from first nozzle, with the second nozzle also configured to move with the grinding tool so that the distance between the first nozzle and the mounted-point grinding tool remains substantially unchanged during grinding.
