  • Patent number: 7992548
Abstract: An engine assembly includes a vapor canister in selective fluid communication with a crankcase to store alcohol vapor when the temperature inside the crankcase causes alcohol accumulated in the crankcase to boil. The vapor canister is in selective fluid communication with an air induction system to recirculate the alcohol vapor through the engine in a metered fashion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2008
Date of Patent: August 9, 2011
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: John R. Bucknell, Michael Chapie, John S. Jackson

  • Publication number: 20080047871
Abstract: HSP crude oil is used as process stream in crude oil storage tanks to address sludge levels both by cleaning sludge accumulations and preventing any significant sludge build up when used on a regular basis. HSP crude oil is also used to optimize cleaning routines. Making HSP oil easily accessible by providing a designated HSP source will make tank maintenance more efficient and allow refineries to use the advantages of the HSP oil to the maximum extent.

  • Patent number: 6883497
Abstract: Preignition in an engine is prevented by identifying engine conditions that relate to autoignition. If one or more of the engine conditions exceed a threshold, a controller retards the spark in the engine. The controller detects whether autoignition occurs in the engine due to the retarded spark advance. If autoignition is detected, the controller corrects the one or more engine conditions by at least one of reducing a throttle opening, cutting of fuel to a cylinder, adjusting a camshaft phase, and storing a diagnostic code.

  • Patent number: 6081183
Abstract: A continuous ribbon resistor element having a plurality of conjunctive lengths alternately connected by reflexes is supported in a frame comprised of silicon bonded laminated mica. The ribbon elements are formed with a single, flat convolution center offset to one side of an original plane and lateral portions offset to an opposite side of the plane, joined to the center offset by transition portions such that the centroid for any transverse cross section lies on the original plane. The offsets originate at flat end portions near the reflexes and have maximum offset intermediate the ends. Metal members are received in openings of the laminated mica insulators to receive threaded fasteners when attaching an insulator in edge-wise relationship to another. Thermally conductive termination connections are brought outside the frame and airflow passageway to remove from the passageway the additional heat otherwise absorbed by the terminals.

  • Patent number: 5418511
Abstract: Molded insulating shell halves are secured together around a blowout coil, stationary and movable contacts to pivotally trap an armature assembly therebetween. Windows are provided in the shell halves to ventilate the electromagnet coil during operation. The electromagnet is removable through the window without disassembly of the contactor. Contact and armature adjustment is accomplished through additional window openings. An arc chute having left and right-hand arc extinguishing chambers each sub-divided into upper and front chambers splits the arc into four series segments and increases the overall length of the arc significantly over similar prior art devices.

  • Patent number: 4516401
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine is provided with charge pressure control means, such as a turbocharger wastegate valve, to control engine charging pressure and a control system for actuating the charge pressure control means to vary charge pressure as a function of the deviation of the location of peak pressure in the engine cylinder relative to a desired value in order to control engine combustion rate and thereby the peak pressure location.
