  • Patent number: 4336039
Abstract: A turbine for the generation of energy from geothermal sources including a reaction water turbine of the radial outflow type and a similar turbine for supersonic expansion of steam or gases. The rotor structure may incorporate an integral separator for removing the liquid and/or solids from the steam and gas before the mixture reaches the turbines.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 13, 1977
Date of Patent: June 22, 1982
    Inventor: John S. Sohre
  • Patent number: 3968935
Abstract: A convergent-divergent nozzle for supersonic expansion of turbine motive fluid is presented wherein the major part of contouring of the flow paths between adjacent nozzles is in the direction between top and bottom walls between adjacent nozzle side walls, the contouring being accomplished by contoured top and bottom nozzle walls which are asymmetrically contoured in an axial direction to define a symmetric flow path therebetween.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 24, 1974
Date of Patent: July 13, 1976
    Inventor: John S. Sohre
  • Patent number: RE29128
Abstract: A converging-diverging nozzle unit for supersonic expansion in turbines is presented wherein a plurality of converging nozzle segments open into a common diverging chamber at or near the throat of the converging nozzles. Convergence and divergence may occur in different directions in the nozzle unit; with reference to a rotating turbine wheel, convergence occurs in a direction substantially tangential with respect thereto, and divergence occurs substantially radial with respect thereto.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 15, 1976
Date of Patent: February 1, 1977
    Inventor: John S. Sohre
