Patent number: 7705694Abstract: In accordance with principles of the present invention, a two or more pole dielectric resonator circuit is provided with resonators that are elliptical in cross section orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. The resonators are mounted so that they are rotatable about their longitudinal axes, such that the straight line distance between two adjacent resonators measured in a straight line between orthogonal to and intersecting the longitudinal axes of the two resonators is a function of the orientation of the resonators about their longitudinal axes. The resonators can be oriented about their longitudinal axes in any orientation to adjust their spacing, which is directly proportional to their coupling magnitude, which, in turn, is proportional to the bandwidth of the circuit.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2006Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Cobham Defense Electronic Systems CorporationInventors: Neil James Craig, Paul John Schwab, Kristi Dhimiter Pance

Patent number: 7352264Abstract: In order to permit electronic tuning of the frequency of a circuit including dielectric resonators, such as a dielectric resonator filter, tuning plates are employed adjacent the individual dielectric resonators. The tuning plates comprises two separate conductive portions and an electronically tunable element electrically coupled therebetween. The electronically tunable element can be any electronic component that will permit changing the capacitance between the two separate conductive portions of the tuning plates by altering the current or voltage supplied to the electronically tunable element. Such components include virtually any two or three terminal semiconductor device. However, preferable devices include varactor diodes and PIN diodes.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2005Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: M/A-COM, Inc.Inventors: Paul John Schwab, Kristi Dhimiter Pance, Neil James Craig

Publication number: 20070047837Abstract: A stereo imaging based vision system and method provides enhanced portal security through stereoscopy. In particular, a system detects non-people objects within the chamber of a revolving door by acquiring two-dimensional (2D) images from different vantage points, and computing a filtered set of three-dimensional (3D) features of the door compartment by using both the acquired 2D images and model 2D images. Applying image processing techniques to the filtered 3D feature set, non-people objects can be detected.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2005Publication date: March 1, 2007Inventors: John Schwab, Sanjay Nichani

Publication number: 20050249382Abstract: A method and system provides increased levels of security for a mantrap portal by continuously monitoring two zones of the mantrap; a primary zone and a secondary zone. A primary sensor determines that exactly one or zero people are present in the primary zone when requesting access into a secured area. A secondary sensor determines that exactly zero people are present in the secondary zone when access to the secured area is granted. The primary and secondary sensors in combination can detect piggyback events and tailgating events before granting access to a secured area. Further, the primary and secondary sensors in combination can detect the presence of unauthorized persons in a mantrap prior to granting access to the mantrap for exit from a secured area.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2005Publication date: November 10, 2005Applicant: COGNEX TECHNOLOGY AND INVESTMENT CORPORATIONInventors: John Schwab, Raymond Fix, Sanjay Nichani

Patent number: 5917233Abstract: A packaged integrated circuit configured for interconnection to an external component comprises a die (1) having a high frequency contact (8), the die (1) being disposed on a lead frame (3). The lead frame (3) comprises a plurality of leads (9). At least two of the leads are first and second RF port leads (9a, 9b) which are electrically connected to the RF port. When mounted to a printed circuit board substrate, there is a capacitor (12) connected between the first and second high frequency contact (8) leads (9a, 9b) to achieve frequency specific signal attenuation at an unwanted frequency with minimal contribution of insertion loss at a desired frequency.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: David John Fryklund, Paul John Schwab, Graham John Headlem Wells

Patent number: 5903177Abstract: A control circuit is provided that can be used to compensate for pinch off voltage sensitive circuits. The control circuit comprises a control FET (26) having a gate (27), a drain (29), and a source (28). The control FET source (28) is connected to a tracking potential (23) through control FET source resistor (31) in series with a constant voltage drop element (32). A control voltage input (22) is applied to the control FET drain (29). A current flow through the control FET (26) results in a transfer function that is substantially linear for linear changes in control voltage input below a voltage pinch off value of the control FET (26). As the voltage control output (23) approaches the pinch off voltage value of the control FET (26), smaller changes in control voltage output (23) are realized for the same change in control voltage input (22).Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1996Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: Paul John Schwab, Wayne Mack Struble

Patent number: 4735635Abstract: A filtering apparatus for separating particulates from a hot gas stream using hollow, tubular filter elements has a housing with a laterally extending support plate for the filter elements separating the housing into upper and lower sections. The tops of the filter elements are biased against the support plate and the bottoms thereof restrained from lateral movement by restraining rings. Blowback and purge gas systems provide for cleaning of the filter elements and maintenance of the blowback system clear of the solids or condensation products that might form during the separation. The apparatus is especially useful in filtering solids from a hot, corrosive gaseous stream, such as a zirconium tetrachloride process gas stream, where the gas stream contains gaseous constituents that are subject to condensation or solids formation during separation of the particulates and prior to discharge from the filtering apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1987Date of Patent: April 5, 1988Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventors: Gordon A.
