    Abstract: A combustion gasket having dual material structures is provided. The combustion gasket has a rigid material structure adjacent to a resilient material structure. The rigid and resilient material structures independently engage the connected surfaces. In the case of a fuel injector mounted on a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, the connected surfaces are an injector ledge formed by the fuel injector and a cylinder ledge formed by the cylinder head. The rigid material structure bears the load, for example of a fuel injector, and may partially seal the connection.

    Abstract: A fluid delivery system for delivering a supply of a fluid from a fluid source to a fuel injector includes a rail for conveying a fluid and being positionable proximate the fuel injector. The rail has a fluid passageway defined therein, the fluid passageway being in fluid communication with the source of fluid. A connector is in fluid communication with both the rail and with the fuel injector for fluidly connecting the rail to the fuel injector. The connector is universally moveable in three axes for accommodating static tolerances existing between the rail and the fuel injector and for accommodating dynamic relative motion between the rail and the fuel injector such that stresses imposed on the fuel injector resulting from being attached to the rail are substantially eliminated.

    Abstract: A water seal coolant wick comprises a ring of absorbent material, such as felt, disposed in the drain cavity between the inner radial face of a water pump seal in a water pump and the bearing housing so that the wick is disposed in the leakage path between the seal and the drain cavity weep hole, the wick preferably completely filling the drain cavity and acting to absorb insignificant weepage from the seal and keep it within the housing, out of sight, while allowing substantial leakage, which would be indicative of pump failure, to flow out of the weep hole.

    Abstract: A valve cover assembly for an internal combustion engine has an integrally formed spark plug tube extending therethrough and into a cylinder head. The blind joint between the spark plug tube and the cylinder head surface against which it abuts is provided with a unique joint seal assembly wherein a flange surface generally parallel to the cylinder head surface is provided on the outer periphery of the tube and the tube is reversely tapered from the flange to the end thereof. An elastomeric sealing ring is mounted on and retained in place by the reverse taper below the flange and abuts against the cylinder head. The ring is thus retained on the tube during installation and removal of the valve cover from the cylinder head while growth of the ring due to the hot oil environment is accommodated by the radial extent of the flange surface.

    Abstract: A plastic gasket assembly of substantially increased thickness, compared to present day elastomeric or composition gaskets, for use in sealing an engine valve cover to a cylinder head thereof, the gasket including a portion incorporating an electrical conductor for creating an electrical bridge through the sealing area between the cylinder head and valve cover by means of which exterior control circuitry can be electrically coupled to electrical or electronic devices disposed internally of the valve cover. In a first embodiment, the wires connecting the devices to the control unit are simply molded into the gasket whereas in a second embodiment, the gasket is drilled or molded to provide holes for inserting the wires, sealing of the wires being accomplished by clamping of the gasket and/or sealant disposed on the wire.
