  • Publication number: 20070181237
Abstract: Pneumatic tires for aircraft service having a belt package with shoulder reinforcement. The tire includes a belt reinforcing structure or belt package having multiple cut belts, multiple spiral wound belt layers positioned radially between the cut belts and the tread, and multiple spiral wound shoulder layers proximate the shoulder. The spiral wound belt layers and the spiral wound shoulder layers are formed by a continuous cord-reinforced strip having a strip width. The spiral wound belt layers are characterized by a first winding pitch of approximately one strip width per revolution and the spiral wound shoulder layers are characterized by a second winding pitch of less than one strip width per revolution. Alternatively, the spiral wound shoulder layers may be formed with a tiered arrangement by shifting the starting location for successive spiral wound belt layers laterally so that the side edges are not coincident.

  • Publication number: 20050274444
Abstract: A pneumatic radial ply tire 100 for use on aircraft has a radial reinforced carcass 20 having at least one axially inner ply 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D of textile cords 21 wound around a pair of bead cores 33. The improved bead structure 30 has a woven chipper, a radially inner end EI and axially outer end EE. The axially outer portion of the chipper is embedded in rubber chafer material above the bead base surface and inward of the bead flange surface. The axially outer end EE is terminated radially below the top of the bead core, preferably between the center and the top of the bead core 33 and the radially inner end is turned radially toward the bead core and is terminated between the bead core and the bead base. Preferably the chipper is formed of a square woven material of nylon 6, 6 or similar textile material.

  • Publication number: 20050056359
Abstract: The method of forming a composite belt structure 40 for a tire 21 is disclosed. The method discloses the steps of applying a multicord 46 reinforced strip 43 having a strip width SW onto a rotating crowned building drum, the strips 43 being wound in a zigzag configuration to form at least two zigzag layers 41 wherein the crowned drum has non-overlapping portions of the strips 43 placed in a central portion and extending in alternation to a pair of shoulder portions having portions of the strips 43 overlapping, the central portion having a maximum diameter Do and the shoulder portions have a minimum diameter Di, the adjacent strips 43 being placed apart from 0 to 2 mm in the central portion and the strips 43 are increasingly overlapping in each shoulder portion as the strips 43 extend from the central portion toward lateral ends of the belt structure 40 to form belt layers 39, 40.
