  • Patent number: 12540383
Abstract: A metallic material with a first microstructure is coated in a bath with a coating to form a coated metallic material. The coating has a liquidus temperature and the bath has an operating temperature that is higher than the liquidus temperature. The first microstructure of the metallic material is altered by the application of the coating to an alternative microstructure. The coating includes a dopant which acts as a temperature reducing agent.

  • Publication number: 20210180172
Abstract: The present invention relates to a coated substrate material. The substrate can be a steel alloy and the microstructure in the steel alloy can be altered with a low temperature coating process. The present invention also relates to a method to coat the substrate at the low temperature. The present invention also relates to a coating wherein the melting temperature of the coating is reduced with a dopant compared to the melting temperature without the dopant. The present invention also relates to a method to make the coating with the dopant.

  • Publication number: 20160312323
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of medium manganese steels for hot stamping to produce ultra high strength steel blanks with improved residual ductility of hot formed steels (as compared to boron-added steels such as 22MnB5 grade). The medium manganese steel sheets require much lower processing temperatures (<700° C. vs. >900° C.) prior to forming operation, allowing reduction of energy consumption during manufacturing.

  • Publication number: 20060011274
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing steel with retained austenite. In one embodiment, the process comprises the steps of heating a steel alloy to produce austenite, quenching the steel to produce martensite, and carbon partitioning to transfer carbon from the martensite to the austenite.
