  • Patent number: 9380460
Abstract: The present invention handles Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) applications in an efficient manner. The present invention is a session aware Diameter relay agent that correlates sessions that require binding and relay sessions to the same AAA server, such as a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) server. In one embodiment, the relay agent may be arranged to select a Diameter server and forward the user equipment (UE) request to the respective server while registering the server selection. The Diameter server may be a PCRF server.

  • Publication number: 20160183273
Abstract: A method for providing access feedback when a User Equipment, UE, with an established a connection over multiple accesses towards a Gateway, GW, initiates a set-up of a new service for a service session. The method comprises a step where the GW or a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, initiates a Quality of Service, QoS, resource reservation as a response of the set-up of the new service initiated by the UE. The GW or the PCRF in the QoS resource reservation selects a first access as present access. The method is particularly characterized in a step where the UE rejects said first access as present access and sends a reject message to the GW, wherein the GW or the PCRF as a result of the reject message initiates a new QoS resource reservation selecting a second access as present access.

  • Publication number: 20160080578
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, node (320), for handling User Equipment-Aggregated Maximum Bit Rate, UE-AMBR, for a wireless device (305) in a communications network (300). The PCRF node (320) comprises a direct interface (317) with a Mobility Management Entity/Serving General packet radio service Support Node, MME/SGSN (308). The PCRF node (320) receives a subscribed UE-AMBR from the MME/SGSN (308) using the direct interface (317). The subscribed UE-AMBR is associated with a wireless device subscription. When triggered, the PCRF node (320) calculates a UE-AMBR based on the subscribed UE-AMBR and based policies associated with the wireless device (305). The PCRF node (320) transmits the calculated UE-AMBR to the MME/SGSN (308) using the direct interface (317).

  • Publication number: 20160029271
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, node (208) for handling Access Point Names, APNs. The PCRF node receives, from a Core Network, CN, node (205), a request message comprising information indicating a first APN associated with a packet data connection. The request message is a request for a second APN being configured for a wireless device (203) arranged to communicate via the packet data connection. The PCRF node selects a configuration for the wireless device (203), and selects the second APN adapted to the selected configuration from a plurality of candidate second APNs. Each candidate second APN in the plurality comprises different configurations for the same packet data connection. The PCRF node transmits a response message to the CN node (205). The response message comprises information indicating the selected second APN.

  • Patent number: 9185544
Abstract: This disclosure describes apparatuses, methods and computer program products for reducing location update signaling in a mobile communications network. In some embodiments, a method is provided in which a mobility management and control (MMC) rule is provided to a location aware network node (LANN) (e.g., an MME). The MMC rule includes location information that specifies a location and an action associated with the location. In response to receiving mobility information pertaining to a mobile communication device (MCD), the LANN uses the mobility information and the location information to determine whether or not to perform the action associated with the location information.

  • Publication number: 20150131615
Abstract: In a mobile network comprising a plurality of base stations and a gateway, a user equipment may perform a handover from a source base station to a target base station. By control signalling, the handover may be notified from the target base station to a control node of the mobile network and then to the gateway so that the gateway may switch to a data path which connects the target base station and the gateway. The notification of the handover may be delayed at the target base station or at the control node, by starting a timer and sending the control signalling for initiating the path switching after expiry of the timer.

  • Patent number: 8948108
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for enabling resource allocation for a service data flow between a user equipment (14) and a gateway in a multiple access environment. The method comprises the steps of:—A resource reservation device (10,19) receives reservation instructions from a policy control node (13). The reservation instructions require dedicated access resources to be reserved for the service data flow.—The resource reservation device (10,19) reports the result of the resource reservation required by the reservation instructions to the policy control node (13). What particularly characterize the method are the steps of:—The resource reservation device (10,19) requests reservation of the resources required by the reservation instructions in a plurality of accesses (11,12).—The resource reservation device (10,19) reports the selected single access (11,12) that enables the requested resources to the policy control node (13). This is reported when the access (11,12) is selected.

  • Publication number: 20140369197
Abstract: A method, gateway apparatus, computer program, and computer program product for mitigating end user congestion in a wireless network is provided. The gateway apparatus is in a core network and receives from a radio access network (RAN) a message comprising cell congestion information indicating that a cell of the RAN is in a congested state. The gateway apparatus receives via a packet data network (PDN) a downlink (DL) network packet addressed to a wireless communication device, WCD, attached to the core network via said cell of the RAN. In response to receiving the DL network packet, the gateway apparatus determines a classification of the DL network packet. After determining the classification of the DL network packet, the gateway apparatus processes the DL network packet in accordance with the cell congestion information and the determined classification of the DL network packet.
