Patent number: 10737110Abstract: A light therapy apparatus is described that includes a housing, a laser mounted in the interior of the housing, and a control circuit that controls the laser according to a control program. The housing includes an opening extending through a first surface of the housing from an interior of the housing. The first surface is perpendicular to the bottom of the housing. The laser is mounted in the interior of the housing so as to output laser light in a direction perpendicular to the bottom of the housing, and the housing and the laser are arranged so that eyes of a user are shielded from direct contact with the laser light output by the laser by the laser light output from the laser being indirectly output through the opening.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2017Date of Patent: August 11, 2020Inventor: John Stephan

Patent number: 8702291Abstract: An illuminatable apparatus includes a fabric sheet containing fiber optic rods interwoven with fabric threads. The ends of the fiber optic rods are bundled together to form a ferrule which is removably insertable into a holder carrying a light source and a power source. An outer ferrule can be fixed over the sleeve-like ferrule or robust applications. The holder may be removably attached to articles of clothing. The illuminatable fabric sheet can be used as an optical bandage, in a medical cast, in a negative pressure device, or in a bed pad/sheet, or in a therapeutic brace support.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2011Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Inventor: John Stephan

Publication number: 20060181715Abstract: A system for non-contact measurement of thickness of a test object. A laser beam is split into two identical directly opposed input beams. A calibration object of known thickness causes beams to be reflected from sides of the test object. Each reflected beam passes through sensing means including a pinhole aperture and a photodiode sensor. Maximum sensor output defines first and second focal points a known distance apart. The calibration object is removed, and the test object is inserted into the path of the input beams, creating focus position intensity curves for the reflected beams. By determining the deviation, at maximum photodiode output, of the positions of the test object reflecting surfaces from the positions of the calibration object surfaces, the test object thickness can be readily and accurately determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2006Publication date: August 17, 2006Inventors: Thomas Bristow, Shu Wang, John Stephan

Patent number: 5092793Abstract: A swivel apparatus couples an electrical conductor connected to an electrical device, such as a hand held, bar code scanner. The swivel apparatus includes a housing with a first end portion fixedly connectable to an electrical device and a freely movable second end portion. The second end portion rotates about the first end portion to convert bending forces exerted on the electrical conductor supported by the second end portion into movement of the second end portion with respect to the first end portion and twisting of the electrical conductor in a direction to relieve such bending forces on the electrical conductor. In one embodiment, the housing includes a base fixedly attached to the bar code scanner. The base includes an outwardly extending annular flange spaced from the main body of the base by a recess. A two-part clamp having first and second end portions is rotatingly mounted on the base.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1990Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Inventor: John Stephan
