  • Patent number: 6670501
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of methyl methacrylate includes a process for separating the methyl methacrylate from certain impurities, at least one of which has a freezing point of greater than −50° C., by a fractional crystallisation process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 6, 2000
Date of Patent: December 30, 2003
    Assignee: Lucite International UK Limited
Inventors: Stephen Patrick Harrison, William David Parten, Joseph Youngblood Stuart, John Stuart Martin
  • Patent number: 6384268
Abstract: A process for the removal of formaldehyde species from a liquid carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester stream which forms a two-phase mixture with water is disclosed which comprises the step of subjecting the liquid organic mixture to at least one liquid liquid extraction stage wherein water is used as an extractant to produce an organic phase stream which is substantially formaldehyde free and an aqueous phase stream which contains substantially all of the formaldehyde in the output streams from the liquid liquid extraction. The process is particularly useful for reducing the formaldehyde content of a methyl methacrylate product stream.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 11, 2000
Date of Patent: May 7, 2002
    Assignee: Ineos Acrylics UK Limited
Inventors: William David Parten, Stephen Patrick Harrison, John Stuart Martin
  • Patent number: 5928479
Abstract: A process for the purification of pentafluoroethane by removing chloropentafluoroethane therefrom which comprises adding to the impure pentafluoroethane a component which undergoes a non-ideal interaction with chloropentafluoroethane and/or with the azeotrope of chloropentafluoroethane and pentafluoroethane such that the volatility of chloropentafluoroethane and/or the azeotrope of chloropentafluoroethane and pentafluoroethane relative to bulk pentafluoroethane is increased and distilling the mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 19, 1996
Date of Patent: July 27, 1999
    Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLC
Inventors: Paul Nicholas Ewing, Stuart Corr, John Stuart Martin, Michael John Watson
