  • Publication number: 20140159975
Abstract: An compact manpack format antenna operating over a broad bandwidth. In one arrangement, the antenna is formed from a set of five hollow cylindrical conductive elements. Several cylinders provide, for example, a VHF/UHF radiator section and other cylinders form an L-band radiator section. A bottom leg of the L-band section operates as part of the VHF/UHF section via coupling between that lower L-band leg and the VHF/UHF section. This coupling arrangement reduces the required overall physical length of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 8742753
Abstract: Stimulated emissions due to nuclear quadropole resonance are detected utilizing a terminated balanced transmission line and a directional coupler for the detection of explosives, contraband, narcotics and the like that exist between the transmission lines, with either a stepped frequency generator utilized to scan between 100 KHz and 10 MHz, or wherein parallel fixed frequency sources are coupled to the transmission line, thereby to permit correlation with expected lines, with the frequency sources being low power so as to not create a safety hazard and so as not to interfere with radiation sensitive devices such as film or electronic circuits that are in the vicinity of the balanced transmission line.

  • Patent number: 8680946
Abstract: A programmable transversal structure that may serve as a filter, or more generally, a transversal network. A pair of time delay elements are implemented using one or more grating control propagation path structures, multilayer waveguides with configurable gaps, or variable impedance meander lines. Electro active actuators responsive to bandwidth, center frequency, and stop band attenuation control inputs control the delay of such elements. Impedance elements are distributed between the time delay elements to provide the desired transversal response.

  • Patent number: 8665163
Abstract: An extremely thin embedded antenna for an armor-carrying vehicle utilizes a dipole driven element to the inside of the armor plate and a parasitically-driven dipole element on top of the armor plate, with the parasitic element providing appropriate forward gain and antenna matching characteristics such that there need be no aperturing of the armor plate in order to feed the antenna. In one embodiment, the bowtie antenna elements are elongated, extended or expanded by outboard antenna sections which are spaced from the distal ends of the corresponding bowties, with a meanderline choke bridging the gap between a bowtie element and its extended portion.

  • Patent number: 8660803
Abstract: Nuclear quadrupole resonance measurement using two or more wire loop(s) within a space to define a portal, and driving the wire loop(s) with a baseband digital transmitter generating a chirped or stepped signal, to create a corresponding varying electromagnetic field within the portal. Coherent emissions reflected thereby are detected through a directional coupler feeding the transceiver. The detected coherent emissions are processed with a matched filter to determine presence of a target object within the portal.

  • Patent number: 8570038
Abstract: Nuclear quadrupole resonance substance detection at a distance is provided by crossed or overlapping high frequency beams in which the frequency of one of the beams is offset with respect to the frequency of the other beam by an amount equal to the resonant frequency of the non-linear material to be detected. The presence of energy at the offset frequency within the overlapping beams pumps any non-linear material within the overlapping beams to cause stimulated emission which is detected, in one embodiment, utilizing a network analyzer, along with correlation of the detected stimulated emission signature with a library of signatures for predetermined substances.

  • Publication number: 20130266319
Abstract: A photonic antenna uses a traveling wave fed, surface wave excited, dielectric waveguide. One or more antenna elements are arranged in a line or other array. An optical interconnect is provide by depositing the waveguide structure on the system of antenna elements, and the photodiode detectors on the waveguide, or wafer bonded to the waveguide core. Optical sources are butt coupled to the edge of the waveguide via wafer bonding or as part of a deposition process. The device acts as a free-space optical transceiver embodied in an integrated photonic antenna and waveguide structure, and provides high speed, spectrally broadband response; it also inherently includes an open architecture for implementing Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM).
