  • Patent number: 7807469
Abstract: A method of determining whether an animal has ingested a plant of interest is provided. The method includes screening the animal for the presence of at least one indicator of a plant of interest.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 2006
Date of Patent: October 5, 2010
    Assignee: Monsanto Technology LLC
Inventors: Robert G. Orth, Graham P. Head, Mary Mierkowski, Steven H. Modiano, John T. Greenplate
  • Publication number: 20030026795
Abstract: Compositions and methods for controlling insects by co-expressing an amino acid oxidase and a second enzyme that provides insecticidal activity when present in a mixture with the amino acid oxidase are disclosed. Also disclosed are DNA and protein sequences, and transformed microorganisms and plants useful for achieving such insect control.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 26, 2001
    Publication date: February 6, 2003
    Applicant: MONSANTO TECHNOLOGY LLC
Inventors: Barbara G. Isaac, John T. Greenplate, John P. Purcell, Charles P. Romano

  • Patent number: 5763245
Abstract: 3-Hydroxysteroid oxidase in combination with Bacillus thuringiensis CryIA(b) or CryIA(c) crystal proteins or polypeptides controls insects, particularly lepidopterans. The combination when applied to larvae of several lepidopterans indicated significant effects on mortality and stunting and indicated responses that were statistically significant over those expected from additive, independent action. Cholesterol oxidase and CryIA(b) crystal protein were also effective against black cutworm neonates when co-expressed in transgenic corn and tested in a detached leaf assay.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1996
Date of Patent: June 9, 1998
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: John T. Greenplate, Jay C. Pershing, John P. Purcell, David R. Corbin
  • Patent number: 5558862
Abstract: 3-Hydroxysteroid oxidase controls insects, particularly lepidopteran and boll weevil. Genes encoding for this enzyme may be cloned into vectors for transformation of plant-colonizing microorganisms, thereby providing a method of controlling insect infestation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1995
Date of Patent: September 24, 1996
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: David R. Corbin, John T. Greenplate, Michael G. Jennings, John P. Purcell, Robert D. Sammons
