  • Patent number: 8337041
Abstract: Surface mounted lighting fixtures having a troffer channel and a frame that extends around the troffer channel. The troffer channel includes a top wall and side walls. To impart a “back” to the fixture, the troffer channel is positioned in the frame so that the upper surface of the lighting fixture is defined by the top wall of the troffer channel and so that the fixture is mounted to a ceiling via the top wall of the troffer channel. The side walls of the troffer channel are preferably angled relative to the top wall to reflect light out of the fixture as desired. Tie brackets, lamp holder brackets, electrical components, and traditional louvers and lensed door components may be supported by the lighting fixture. An installation bracket may be provided to facilitate installation of the lighting fixture.

  • Patent number: 8220957
Abstract: Retrofit systems for replacing the outdated components of an existing light fixture. The retrofit systems may utilize the previously installed housing of the existing light fixture. The retrofit systems include brackets that are positioned on the ends of the housing. The positioning of the brackets is based off of the ceiling, t-grid, or the bottom of the housing. Lamp sockets with associated lamps, an optional ballast tray with associated ballast, reflector(s), lamps, and a shielding mechanism are all mounted on, and their position in the housing dictated by, the mounting brackets. Thus, regardless of the depth of the housing, the lamps are positioned a uniform distance from the ceiling opening to create consistent light distribution. Moreover, because these components are not directly attached to the housing, their dimensions need not precisely match those of the housing. Rather, the retrofit system can be installed in housings of varying sizes and shapes.

  • Patent number: 8153894
Abstract: A mounting system for a member to a support structure. The member includes ends and sides. A hinge may be attached to one of the ends of the member. Hinges may be attached to both ends along the same side of the member. The hinge may include an arm from which a tab extends. The ends may include securing means. The support structure includes a mounting aperture that is configured to interact with the hinge of the member. In some embodiments, the support structure may have multiple mounting apertures. The mounting aperture is configured to prevent the hinge of the member from disengaging from the support structure. In some embodiments, the mounting aperture is configured to pivotally retain the hinge of the member.

  • Patent number: 8100551
Abstract: A replacement light fixture for directing light emitted from a light source toward an area to be illuminated, including a base member upon with the light source is positioned and a reflector assembly detachably secured to a first and second mounting brackets that are mounted to a portion of the preexisting light fixture housing such that a lens portion of the reflector assembly overlies the light source and such that substantially all of the light emitted from the light source passes through the lens portion.

  • Publication number: 20110310625
Abstract: Light fixtures comprising an organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the light source, and further comprising a housing, at least one hollow, and an optic. The at least one hollow defines an intended area where light is emitted, and includes a reflective surface to reflect light within the intended area. The optic comprises a refractive portion that is defined by two edges. In one embodiment, the OLED is coupled to the two edges of the optic. In another embodiment, the OLED is coupled to and contacts an inner surface of the refractive portion. In either embodiment, the OLED is either sufficiently close to or contacting the refractive portion such that surface area of emitted light is maximized. Additionally, the OLED is placed sufficiently close to (or within) the intended area that reflected light and optical efficiency are maximized.

  • Publication number: 20110286214
Abstract: Light fixtures for illuminating spaces that use light emitting diode-based light sources and that incorporate chip on board technology that enables the light emitting diode to be mounted directly on a portion of the light fixture. In some embodiments, the light fixture includes a reflector assembly onto which the light emitting diode is directly mounted. In other embodiments, the reflector assembly includes an aperture that receives a board having chip on board technology onto which the light emitting diode is directly mounted. In some embodiments, the light fixture also includes a diffuser for diffusing the light emanating from the light emitting diodes.

  • Patent number: 7918589
Abstract: A light fixture or troffer for directing light emitted from a light source toward an area to be illuminated, including a reflector assembly within which the light source is positioned and a lens assembly detachably secured to a portion of the reflector assembly such that a lens of the lens assembly overlies the light source and such that substantially all of the light emitted from the light source passes through the lens assembly. In one example, the lens includes a curved prismatic surface that can be oriented toward or away from the underlying light source.

  • Publication number: 20100309658
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide strip lighting fixtures, where the strip fixture includes a channel defined by a base plate and two side walls, end plates located at each end of the channel, and a channel cover that snap-fits onto the channel. In one embodiment, the channel side walls include at least one gripper indentation that releasably engages with at least one tong hanger hook via a snap-fit connection to attach the strip fixture to a support structure. In some embodiments, tong hangers include hooker clips that connect the tong hanger to a support structure. In some embodiments, the channel cover is contoured to provide additional spacing or relief areas to avoid pinched wires when the channel cover is connected to the channel. A lamp reflector may be used in conjunction with, or in place of, the channel cover.
