  • Publication number: 20220132650
Abstract: A printed circuit board (PCB) assembly with a first PCB connected to a second PCB with a flexible interconnect and a vapor chamber for positioning between the first PCB and the second PCB. The flexible interconnect allows the PCB assembly to be in an open configuration or a closed configuration. In the closed configuration, the vapor chamber is between the two PCBs. The flexible interconnect supplies a portion of the electric power from the first PCB to the second PCB and a power connector supplies a second portion of the electric power. Grounding springs allow localized grounding of the PCB assembly. The flexible interconnect, the power connector and the grounding springs provide structural support for the second PCB. The vapor chamber may be longer than the PCBs to draw heat away from components and the flexible interconnect may be used as an airflow guide for improving airflow over components.

  • Patent number: 11314353
Abstract: An information handling system includes a first display device having a touch-sensitive surface capable of detecting a stylus. The stylus may communicate with the first display device via the touch-sensitive surface. A processor copies content from the touch-sensitive surface to a first memory of the first display device, and stores an identifier key and a public key that are both associated with the first display device to a second memory. The processor may also establish a secure communication link between the first display device and a second display device using the identifier key and the public key, and paste the content from the first memory to the second display device using the stylus.

  • Patent number: 11243640
Abstract: An expansion device couples to a capacitive mat disposed on a desktop surface and communicates power and data through the capacitive mat to perform functions in support of an information handling system. For example, the expansion device powers an inductive charger to charge a peripheral device, accepts end user touch inputs with a capacitive touch sensor, presents visual information at an integrated display in response to pixel values provided by the information handling system though the capacitive mat.

  • Patent number: 11150703
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting a keyboard's position with respect to a display of a multi-form factor Information Handling System (IHS) are described. In some embodiments, an IHS may include: a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to: identify, using an infrared (IR) transceiver, a position of a keyboard disposed on a surface of a display; and render a graphical feature on the display based upon the position.

  • Patent number: 11088564
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a wireless charging placement and/or alignment indicator(s) are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a chassis and a controller coupled to the chassis, the controller configured to: identify a direction of movement between the device and a wireless charger that increases a charging efficiency between the device and the wireless charger; and indicate the direction of movement via a Light-Emitting Diode (LED) disposed on the chassis.

  • Patent number: 11017742
Abstract: A portable information handling system presents visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second rotationally-coupled housing portions. When the housing portions rotate to a clamshell configuration, a refractive layer in a “DO” display aligns light illuminated from the display off an orthogonal angle and towards a user while a “SEE” display aligns light illuminated from the display along an orthogonal angle.

  • Patent number: 10969841
Abstract: A portable information handling system transfers thermal energy associated with operation of processing components in a main housing portion to a vapor chamber integrated in a lid housing portion that distributes the thermal energy across the lid housing portion. A hinge protrusion formed in the lid housing portion defines a cylindrical opening that accepts a hinge pin to rotationally couple the housing portions to each other. The cylindrical wall defines a barrier with the vapor chamber so that a thermal conduit passing from the main housing portion to the hinge pin transfers thermal energy from the hinge pin through the cylindrical wall to the vapor chamber.

  • Patent number: 10936031
Abstract: A portable information handling system transfers thermal energy associated with operation of a CPU to a location distal the CPU with a vapor chamber thermally interfaced with the CPU. A pressure adapter interfaced with the vapor chamber selectively changes the pressure within the vapor chamber to adjust the saturation point of a liquid in the vapor chamber that manages thermal transfer efficiency. For example, a controller interfaced with the pressure adapter modifies thermal transfer characteristics of the vapor chamber to control thermal conditions at the information handling system, such as in response to a temperature sensed at a housing surface, a battery, a display or at other locations of the information handling system.

  • Patent number: 10860140
Abstract: Detection and tracking of a totem by a touchscreen touch controller mitigates false touches and false inputs by adapting capacitance at the totem feet. Totem feet have a capacitance that falls between a noise threshold and a finger touch threshold so that a pattern of the totem feet is detected separate from finger touches. Active capacitance is applied to one or more of the totem feet to enhance totem detection, such as by highlighting totem contact points of interest to an end user for a rotational versus linear input.

  • Patent number: 10860110
Abstract: A disclosed method and information handling system configurable for operating as a dual display information handling system or a single display information handling system. In a single display device configuration, visual content is displayed on a first device and a GUI-based virtual touchpad is launched on a second device. If there is user contact sensed relative to the virtual touchpad, a processor determines if the contact corresponds to a left-click command, a right-click command or contact moving across the virtual touchpad. The processor selects a click waveform or a moving contact waveform and one or more piezoelectric disks coupled to the second device display layer generate forces based on a waveform for emulating a left-click or a right-click or for emulating moving contact.

  • Patent number: 10852853
Abstract: A totem object placed on a touchscreen display provides inputs based upon touches made at the touchscreen display, such as with the rotational orientation or linear location of the totem object relative to a user interface presented outside the totem object. A visual access from the touchscreen display through the totem object passes a visual image from the touchscreen display for presentation at the totem object upper surface, such a numerical value of an input made by totem object position on the touchscreen display.

  • Publication number: 20200349895
Abstract: A portable information handling system presents visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second rotationally-coupled housing portions. When the housing portions rotate to a clamshell configuration, a keyboard disposed on one of the displays accepts keyed inputs and, to save power, backlight segments below the keyboard are powered down. The display can present information as visual images proximate the keyboard with illumination provided by other backlight segments or by a secondary light source that is presented in coordination with liquid crystal panel pixels transitioning to transparent and opaque states.

  • Patent number: 10802556
Abstract: A portable information handling system transfers thermal energy associated with operation of processing components in a first housing portion to a thermal exchanger in a second housing portion through a hinge that rotationally couples the first and second housing portions. The hinge has first and second axles that each define a channel. Fluid heated at the first housing portion passes through the channel to the thermal exchanger where thermal energy is rejected from the system. In one embodiment, a second hinge having first and second axles that each define a channel provides a return path for the fluid from the second housing portion to the first housing portion.

  • Patent number: 10802555
Abstract: A portable information handling system transfers thermal energy associated with operation of a CPU from a main housing portion to a lid housing portion with thermal conduction through a hinge assembly that rotationally couples the main and lid housing portions to each other. • Publication number: 20200319719
Abstract: An active stylus couples to an information handling system by a removable clip that inserts into a slot formed in the information handling system housing. Power to charge a battery of the active stylus passes from an interface internal to the information handling system, through the clip and to a charger in the active stylus. The active stylus clip releases the active stylus in the presence of excessive force to prevent damage to the information handling system and active stylus.

  • Patent number: 10761618
Abstract: A totem resting on a touchscreen display integrates a display at an upper surface to present visual information to an end user. Totem orientation is determined from totem touches at the touchscreen display and applied with other factors to orient the presentation of visual information at the totem to the orientation of an end user viewing the touchscreen display. Visual information presented at the totem may include input icons to associate the totem with an application, notifications from applications, and content presented at the touchscreen display under the totem.
