  • Publication number: 20200041487
Abstract: A business method for use in classifying patient samples. The method includes steps of collecting case samples representing a clinical phenotypic state and control samples representing patients without said clinical phenotypic state. Preferably the system uses a mass spectrometry platform system to identify patterns of polypeptides in said case samples and in the control samples without regard to the specific identity of at least some of said polypeptides. Based on identified representative patterns of the state, the business method provides for the marketing of diagnostic products using representative patterns. The present invention relates to systems and methods for identifying new markers, diagnosing patients with a biological state of interest, and marketing/commercializing such diagnostics. The present invention relates to systems and methods of greater sensitivity, specificity, and/or cost effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 7906758
Abstract: The present invention relates to a charged particle beam apparatus which employs a scanning electron microscope for sample inspection and defect review. The present invent provides solution of improving imaging resolution by utilizing a field emission cathode tip with a large tip radius, applying a large accelerating voltage across ground potential between the cathode and anode, positioning the beam limit aperture before condenser lens, utilizing condenser lens excitation current to optimize image resolution, applying a high tube bias to shorten electron travel time, adopting and modifying SORIL objective lens to ameliorate aberration at large field of view and under electric drifting and reduce the urgency of water cooling objective lens while operating material analysis. The present invent provides solution of improving throughput by utilizing fast scanning ability of SORIL and providing a large voltage difference between sample and detectors.

  • Patent number: 6803568
Abstract: A microfluidic chip formed with multiple fluid channels terminating at a common electrospray ionization tip for mass spectrometric analysis. The fluid channels may be formed within a substrate plate that are in fluid communication with corresponding reservoirs. The electrospray tip can be formed along a defined portion of the substrate plate, wherein the electrospray tip includes an open-tip region at which the fluid channels converge. A top laminate plate may substantially enclose most portions of the fluid channels formed in the bottom polymer plate except for the open-tip region. Another aspect of the invention provides methods for conducting mass spectrometric analysis of multiple samples flowing through individual fluid channels in a single microfluidic chip that is formed with a convergent electrospray tip. The convergent electrospray tip includes an open or exposed distal pointed tip region.

  • Patent number: 4472631
Abstract: Time of flight mass spectrometry techniques are simultaneously combined with path-bending spatial dispersion in magnetic- or electric-sector mass spectrometers to improve the mass resolution or, with an ion fragmentation region, to rapidly obtain multidimensional mass spectral data previously only obtainable by tandem mass spectrometry. The instrumentation generates data defining relationships between parent ions and daughter ions produced by fragmentation, metastable or induced, data to differentiate stable from metastable ions, and data to improve mass resolution. The subject time-resolved mass spectrometers can be combined with chromatography apparatus to obtain multidimensional MS/MS-type data during the relatively short duration of a single chromatographic peak.
