  • Patent number: 7820031
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a multi-stage system and a process utilizing said system with the design of reducing the sulfur-content in a liquid comprising hydrocarbons and organosulfur compounds. The process comprising at least one of the following states: (1) an oxidation stage; (2) an extraction state; (3) a raffinate washing stage; (4) a raffinate polishing stage; (5) a solvent recovery stage; (6) a solvent purification stage; and (7) a hydrocarbon recovery stage. The process for removing sulfur-containing hydrocarbons from gas oil, which comprises oxidizing gas oil comprising hydrocarbons and organosulfur compounds to obtain a product gas oil.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 20, 2004
Date of Patent: October 26, 2010
    Assignee: Degussa Corporation
Inventors: Robert N. D'Alessandro, John Tarabocchia, Jerald Andrew Jones, Steven E. Bonde, Stefan Leininger

  • Patent number: 5463170
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the degradation of highly toxic halogenated organic compounds, in particular polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDD) and dibenzofurans (PCDF), contained in gases containing no SO.sub.2 by oxidation using preferably hydrogen peroxide. The SO.sub.2 -free gas is passed, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, over a substantially inorganic solid contact catalyst, in particular pyrogenic or precipitated silica or aluminum silicate. A residual PCDD/PCDF content of below 0.1 ng TE/Nm.sup.3 may be achieved in the thus treated gas; the highly toxic compounds are oxidized on the solid contact catalyst.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5356604
Abstract: A process for removing halogenated organic compounds from waste gases optionally containing NO.sub.x, in which the waste gas is optionally supplemented with SO.sub.2, optionally led through a fixed bed or fluidized bed of a solid and contacted with Caro's acid or one of its salts. The Caro's acid can be produced in situ by adding H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and optionally H.sub.2 SO.sub.4.

Date of Patent: October 18, 1994
    Assignee: Degussa Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Wedigo von Wedel, Edgar Bilger, Ernst-Robert Barenschee, John Tarabocchia
