  • Patent number: 7188002
Abstract: An appliance diagnostic display and interface system providing a centralized user interface for appliance diagnostic information and control of system self-tests is provided. This centralized user interface is provided via an intelligent thermostat that includes an LCD display. The intelligent thermostat interfaces, via wireless or wired communications, with the appliances installed in the home. The intelligent thermostat then generates and displays various user interface screens that allow particular appliances to be selected. Separate appliance specific screens are then generated that allow the user to access the diagnostic information in system test functionality provided by the individual appliance. Soft function keys provided on the intelligent thermostat allow multi-functional access to the features of the invention depending on which screen is currently being displayed.

  • Patent number: 7187928
Abstract: The invention provides systems and methods that operate to provide seamless roaming to a prepaid subscriber in as many markets as possible. To that end, the systems of the invention include a location register (LR) that can determine the type, or class, of serving market with which the roaming subscriber is registering. Once the class of the serving market is identified, the LR can modify a subscriber's profile as a function of this class, and return to the serving market a profile that will allow the serving market to employ the prepaid platform that services the subscriber and thereby provide services to the roaming subscriber. In optional embodiments, the LR may also respond to location requests from the prepaid platform. The location information may be employed by the subscriber to determine a rate structure for a call, and thereby decrement the subscriber's balance as a function of, at least in part, the location of the roaming subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7187959
Abstract: A multiband element antenna (120) used in combination with a unique metal chassis design that enhances antenna performance and that enables the design of a compact and efficient antenna system. A cellular flip phone (100) that has a conductive chassis includes a flip up antenna (120) that pivots between an extended and a retracted position. The antenna (120) pivots at a point that is located on one edge of the top of the cell phone body (102). The conductive chassis of the flip cover (104) is grounded to the flip phone body (102) at a single point or single surface that is substantially opposite the antenna RF feed (122). Conductive surfaces of the cellular flip phone body (102) are grounded at a single point that is near the antenna RF feed point (122). This grounding arrangement has been found to control the flow of induced currents on the conductive portions of the flip cover (104) and body (102), thereby improving the performance of the device's antenna (120).

  • Patent number: RE39501
Abstract: A multiple network protocol encoder/decoder comprising a network protocol layer, data handler, O.S. State machine, and memory manager state machines implemented at a hardware gate level. Network packets are received from a physical transport level mechanism by the network protocol layer state machine which decodes network protocols such as TCP, IP, User Datagram Protocol (UDP), PPP, and Raw Socket concurrently as each byte is received. Each protocol handler parses and strips header information immediately from the packet, requiring no intermediate memory. The resulting data are passed to the data handler which consists of data state machines that decode data formats such as email, graphics, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Java, and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
