  • Patent number: 7984634
Abstract: Disclosed is a milling device for inline-rolling a steel band which is produced especially by means of a twin-roll continuous casting process. Said milling device comprises at least two rolling units (20, 30) with working rolls (21, 31) that mill the steel band (11) and support rolls (22, 32) which support said working rolls. The working rolls and support rolls are rotatably mounted in bearing housings (23, 24, 33, 34). At least two rolling units (20, 30) are disposed successively in a monolithic or multipiece frame structure (15) such that the rolling temperatures between the rolling units differ only slightly while a simple and inexpensive design is created.

  • Publication number: 20060254335
Abstract: A 6-high rolling mill has work rolls which have offsets, relative to the intermediate rolls, such that during operation there is a net horizontal force acting to urge the work rolls into engagement with the support rolls whereby substantially all horizontal support of the work rolls is provided by the support rolls. Support pads are located proximal the rolls' side faces, without exerting any substantial force on the work rolls during operation.

  • Patent number: 7031653
Abstract: A method and apparatus for switching signals through a switch matrix are disclosed. The apparatus comprises an input module and an output module. The input module has a plurality of inputs typically equal to a number of cells in a reuse pattern, and the inputs receiving at least one uplink beam. The input module also has a plurality of outputs, the plurality of outputs is typically equal to the number of subbands in the uplink beam. The output module is coupled to the input module and selectively couples the outputs from the input module to an output of the output module. The method comprises the steps of grouping the uplink signals into a plurality of groups, the number of groups typically equal to a number of cells in the cell-based transmission matrix, where each group comprises a signal from each frequency used in the frequency reuse pattern. Each group of uplink signals is then separated into subband signals, which are then grouped together into groups of similar subband signals.

  • Patent number: 4753507
Abstract: A fiber squeezer includes a frame that applies a preload to an optical fiber to permit variation of the birefringence thereof by either increasing or decreasing the preload. The optical fiber and a piezoelectric transducer are retained in the frame, and an appropriate voltage source is connected to the piezoelectric transducer to control the force on the fiber, which controls the refractive indices of the fiber by means of the photoelastic effect. The frame may include a pair of generally L-shaped legs fastened together to enclose the piezoelectric transducer and the fiber. The relative positions of the legs are adjustable during assembly of the frame to permit application of the preload to the fiber and transducer fiber squeezer. The frame may also include a generally U-shaped member having a pair of outwardly extending legs with an end plate mounted therebetween. The transducer and the fiber are held between the end plate and the lower portion of the U-shaped member.
