Abstract: Methods and systems for allowing for incremental updates to remote localized copies of disk images (e.g., virtual machine images) are described. In some implementations, the disk images are block-based. The incremental updates may be done in a bi-directional manner across different platforms such that an update to any platform may be prepared for any of the other platforms. Preparation of updates between platforms may be accomplished through one or more of combining disk images, differencing disk images, snapshotting disk images, and/or versioning disk images.

Abstract: A system and method for self-installing a container platform. A method includes implementing an active version and a passive version of the container platform, wherein the active version actively runs on a computing infrastructure and the passive version is maintained in a storage area; loading an updater container from a container registry containing updates to the container platform into the container engine; running the updater container in the container engine, including: mapping the passive version from the storage area to the updater container, writing update data to the passive version, installing the passive version as a new active version, and rebooting the host operating system.
