A sanitizing system (200) loads, washes, irradiates, and treats with an antimicrobial agent, portable devices (14), such as shopping carts, that are likely microbial transmitters, and recovers substantially all used fluid for recycling or environmentally safe disposal. The sanitizing system (200) can be mobile or stationary to one location, and may be fully or partially automated.
