Abstract: A process which enables holders of copyrighted files to be compensated and also for an individual who downloads such copyrighted material to be exonerated from civil and criminal liability. After one or more acts of downloading by the individual, a third party uses various means to acquire data which identifies files downloaded by the individual, subsequently charges a predetermed fee from the individual, and disperses revenues in a predetermined manner.
