  • Patent number: 11947135
Abstract: A light control film is described comprising alternating transmissive regions and absorptive regions disposed between a light input surface and a light output surface. The absorptive regions have an aspect ratio of at least 30. In some embodiments, the alternating transmissive regions and absorptive regions have a transmission as measured with a spectrophotometer at a viewing angle of 0 degrees of at least 35, 40, 45, or 50% for a wavelength of the range 320-400 nm (UV) and/or at least 65, 70, 75, or 80% for a wavelength of the range 700-1400 nm (NIR). In another embodiment, the absorptive regions block light at the light input surface and light output surface and the maximum surface area that is blocked is less than 20% of the total alternating transmissive regions and absorptive regions. Also described are various optical communication systems comprising the light control films described herein and methods.

  • Patent number: 7892380
Abstract: A process of constructing a large diameter tank is provided. The process includes the step of providing a tank wall mandrel that has at least one drive wheel and at least one curved panel. Glass fibers are applied from a vertical winder to the curved panel in order to form a segment of a tank wall shell. Additional glass fibers are also applied to the curved panel at a location above the segment of the tank wall shell in order to form a unitary tank shell.

  • Patent number: 5335167
Abstract: A programmable filament winding apparatus is provided. The apparatus has a rotatable mandrel having a center rotational axis, a traverse axially movable relative to the mandrel, a filament supply, a drive associated with the traverse for movably positioning the traverse, and a winder drive unit for rotating the mandrel. In order to obtain computer control of the apparatus, a first encoder for producing a signal corresponding to rotation of the mandrel, a second encoder associated with the traverse for producing a signal corresponding to a position of the traverse as it moves along the traverse drive axial to the mandrel, and a computer including a microprocessor for receiving and processing signals from the first and second encoders and for controlling the traverse drive and rotation of the mandrel is provided. For manual control, a control panel in communication with the computer for controlling the traverse drive and rotation of the mandrel is provided.
