  • Patent number: 4955354
Abstract: An archery device in which flexible limbs are supported on a limb holder by means of pairs of pivoted swing arms, the limbs, holder member and swing arm pairs each forming a four bar linkage system allowing the limbs to swing rearwards upon drawing of a connected drawstring. Load cables are connected to each limb tip which constrain the limb movement to cause flexing of the limbs during the draw. The load cables move towards alignment with the swing arms to reduce draw effort at full draw.

  • Patent number: 4942861
Abstract: A cross bow is disclosed which includes a cocking mechanism for moving the drawstring to the drawn position. A cocking lever is pivotally mounted beneath the cross bow stock and an operating cable connected at one end to the cocking lever is pulled by pivoting motion of the cocking lever away from the stock member. The operating cable is connected at its other end to an engagement block movable in a lengthwise track and engages the drawstring either directly or through a slider element also mounted in the track, such as to be slid rearwardly upon pivoting of the cocking lever away from the stock to a cocked position in which it is held by a trigger mechansim. The prod is mounted on a movable slide, which in turn is connected to a cocking lever operated linkage so as to be retracted a lesser distance as the cocking lever is pivoted to draw the drawstring and extended as the cocking lever is pivoted back towards the stock to cause the prod limbs to be bent against the restraint of the trigger mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4917071
Abstract: An improved mechanical projector is disclosed of the type including a stock member and a drawstring extending across the stock member to engage a projectile lying along the stock member axis. Variable leverage devices are mounted in various ways on either side of the stock member, drivingly interconnecting the drawstring and at least on resiliently deflectable member such as a pair of prod limbs or a pair of elastic elements. Each variable leverage device includes a rotary element connected to a drawstring segment and causing flexing of an associated deflectable member by drawing of the drawstring with increasing leverage with advancing draw movement. The rotation of the rotary element in each variable leverage is synchronized by a constraint imposed by a driving connection to a slider element movable along the length of the stock member.

  • Patent number: 4858588
Abstract: An archery device is disclosed utilizing separate bending and lauching bowstrings strung on a bow member, the launching bowstring closely positioned to the bow member in the undrawn condition to enable front end launching of an arrow engaged at its forward end by a split configuration of the launching bowstring, the arrow passing between bifurcated portions of the bow member when fired. The bending bowstring when drawn operates a system of rotary drive elements to cause highly leveraged flexing of pivoted limbs mounted at either end. The tips of the flexed limbs are fixed to the launching bowstring, and at firing, the bending drive system allows the flexed limbs to release their stored energy into the lauching bowstring to accelerate the arrow. The separate bending-launching bowstring system enables relatively great arrow accelerating forces to be developed, which are easily withstood by the arrow, since the forces are applied to the front end of the arrow.

  • Patent number: 4757799
Abstract: An archery bow having side by side launching and bending bowstrings, the bending bowstring drawn one or more times as a preliminary to firing of the bow to bend the bow limbs, which bent limbs are released only at firing after drawing and releasing both bowstrings, to accelerate an arrow nocked in the launching bowstring. Bending mechanisms are mounted to the bow handle and are operated by the bending bowstring, to wind up a pair of load cables attched to the limb tips onto capstan elements released at firing. A mechanical advantage is achieved in the bending mechanisms to reduce the effort required to bend the limbs by drawing of the bending bowstring.

  • Patent number: 4672943
Abstract: An archery bow is disclosed of the type having force multiplying rotary devices mounted to each tip of the limbs of the bow member, which act to reduce the required bowstring draw force at full draw. Each of the rotary devices are comprised of three rotary elements mounted for rotation about a common axis, a first element connected to the bowstring, and second and third elements connected to a pair of load cables so as to be in opposition to each other, and with one of the second or third elements able to exert a greater leverage about the common axis. This arrangement causes longitudinal bending of the limbs upon drawing of the bowstring, with the bending of the limbs equalized by the action of the load cables in being connected to each of the rotary devices. The load cables are routed along the handle section to be out of the way in the central region of the bowstring.

  • Patent number: 4651707
Abstract: A slingshot is disclosed in which pairs of primary and secondary swing arms pivoted to a holder frame are pivoted by drawing of a connected drawstring against the resistance of elastic elements, and in which the secondary swing arms swing out to provide a relatively great payout of the drawstring as it is moved to the fully drawn position. This allows the use of an inelastic drawstring.

  • Patent number: 4649891
Abstract: An improved cross bow design is disclosed in which the prod is pivotally mounted to the stock for quick disassembly, and the drawstring nocking point is laterally constrained by a slider and track arrangement to insure coordinated prod limb flexing, and allow the plane of the bolt flight path to be spaced above and parallel to the plane of the drawstring and prod. Variable leverage devices are mounted on either side of the stock member drivingly interconnecting the drawstring and prod limb tips, with several embodiments set forth. Each variable leverage device includes rotary elements connected to a drawstring segment and one or more load cables in an opposing relationship to establish prod limb flexing by the drawstring with increasing leverage with advancing draw movement.

  • Patent number: 4649892
Abstract: A cross bow is disclosed which includes a cocking mechanism for moving the drawstring to the drawn position. A cocking lever is pivotally mounted beneath the cross bow stock member and an operating cable connected at one end to the cocking lever is pulled by pivoting motion of the cocking lever away from the stock member. The operating cable is connected at its other end to an engagement block movable in a lengthwise track and engages the drawstring either directly or through a slider element also mounted in the track, such as to be slid rearwardly upon pivoting of the cocking lever. A retraction spring acts on the engagement block for returning the same to the forward position as the cocking lever is pivoted to its return position.
