  • Patent number: 5490946
Abstract: Adducts of benzotriazole or substituted benzotriazole with formaldehyde or with thiadiazole or substituted thiadiazole are useful as ashless anti-wear/anti-friction/anti-oxidant additives for lubricants. Formulated lubricants containing such adducts exhibit compound levels of anti-wear, anti-friction and oxidation stability performance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 25, 1994
Date of Patent: February 13, 1996
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Morton Beltzer, Manuel A. Francisco, John W. Frankenfeld
  • Patent number: 5076946
Abstract: The addition of certain alkylamine substituted benzotriazole compounds to a lubricant imparts improved oxidation stability and rust inhibition to the lubricant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1990
Date of Patent: December 31, 1991
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company

  • Patent number: 4997585
Abstract: The addition of certain aromatic substituted benzotriazole compounds to a lubricant imparts improved oxidation stability to the lubricant. The oxidation stability is particularly enhanced when the substituents on the substituted aromatic ring are strong electron donors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1990
Date of Patent: March 5, 1991
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: John W. Frankenfeld, Alan R. Katritzky
  • Patent number: 4869838
Abstract: Bis imidazole ethers have been found to be effective metal deactivators. Thus, one aspect of the present invention comprises novel bis imidazole ethers of the formula: ##STR1## in which R is a normal alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and R' is a normal alkyl group having from 1 to carbon atoms, an alkylaryl group having from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, or an aryl group of 6 to 10 carbon atoms. In another aspect of the present invention, an improved lubricating oil is provided comprising a base lubricating oil and the bis imidazole ethers of this invention.

Date of Patent: September 26, 1989
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Sergiu M. Gorun, John W. Frankenfeld
  • Patent number: 4634550
Abstract: A pour depressant for hydrocarbon oils, such as hydrotreated shale oil, and a method for depressing the pour point of hydrocarbon oil utilizing the pour depressant are disclosed. The depressant comprises the combination of:I. an asphaltenic material with copolymers of:II. dibehenyl fumarate vinyl acetate; and,III. ditallow fumarate vinyl acetate.
