  • Patent number: 5673366
Abstract: A system and method forecast geomagnetic events and resulting currents from ground and space weather data, including solar wind velocity data and interplanetary magnetic field data. The system has a processor including a first prediction generator for predicting a midnight equatorial boundary (MEB) value; a second prediction generator for predicting a polar cap potential (PCP) value from the ground and space weather data; an AL and AU prediction generator for predicting AL and AU values; a pseudo Kp value generator for generating a pseudo Kp related value; an electric field pattern generator for determining electric field patterns from the pseudo Kp value, the PCP value, and the ground and space weather data; a conductivity generator for determining conductivity values from the ground and space weather data and the pseudo Kp value; and an adaptive feedback generator for adaptively generating the geomagnetic parameters from the conductivity values, the electric field values, and the predicted AL and AU values.

  • Patent number: 4737911
Abstract: A process for maintaining financial records, such as checkbook balances, in which a checking account user employs a hand-held calculator to record the usual checkbook data electronically. The calculator is programmed to calculate and memorize a first running balance dependent upon numeric data entered by the user. A financial institution maintains a second running balance dependent upon the user's checks and deposits and periodically provides the user with a magnetic card on which the second running balance and other data have been recorded. The card is read by the user's calculator to balance the user's checkbook.

  • Patent number: 4453108
Abstract: A device for generating RF energy from electromagnetic radiation of another form, such as light, includes an emitter responsive to the electromagnetic radiation for producing a beam of charged particles, an electrode spaced from the emitter to define a path for the charged particles, and a resonant structure for supporting RF oscillations and disposed with respect to the path to enable energy transfer between the charged particles and an RF field associated with the RF oscillations. When biased, the devices operate in a multi-pass mode, wherein the charged particles undergo multiple oscillations while remaining in phase with the RF field. When unbiased, the devices operate in a half-cycle mode to produce RF oscillations with no externally applied input power other than the electromagnetic radiation.
