  • Patent number: 4728755
Abstract: A rotary switch construction and method of making the same are provided, the switch construction comprising a surface unit having a substantially circular electrically conductive code pattern thereon, an electrically conductive wiper contact unit cooperating with the surface unit for making contact with a selected part of the pattern, and a rotary selector operatively associated with the units for selecting the desired part of the pattern that is to be contacted by the wiper contact unit, the wiper contact unit comprising a first pair of electrically connected wiper contacts disposed to respectively contact the pattern on a first substantially circular path thereof at points thereon that are disposed approximately 180.degree. from each other.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 23, 1986
Date of Patent: March 1, 1988
    Assignee: Robertshaw Controls Company
Inventors: Daniel L. Fowler, John W. Froeb

  • Patent number: 4599605
Abstract: An electrical encoding device for generating a coded input to an electrical apparatus, which coded input can indicate direction and speed of movement of an actuator associated with an electrical encoding device. The device is cheaper to manufacture since the layout of certain aspects of the device is greatly simplified, the simplified layout of certain aspects of the device reducing cost of manufacture of the device. The device is designed to easily accommodate various encoding parameters so that it may be manufactured in a family-program fashion with families of the device being capable of addressing a range of encoding parameters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 9, 1985
Date of Patent: July 8, 1986
    Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.
Inventors: John W. Froeb, Donald D. Mondul
  • Patent number: 4479392
Abstract: A transducer for indicating changes of an applied physical force including a first electrically propertied means connected within an electrical circuit to create an electrical potential across the first means, a second electrically propertied means adapted to be placed in contact with the first means in a manner so as to reflect a linear relationship between the area of contact between the two means and the force applied to the second means. A preferred embodiment utilizes an elastomeric actuator to apply the force to the second means.
