Patent number: 11294744Abstract: A management entity receives device fingerprints representing corresponding devices connected to one or more networks. Each device fingerprint includes a multi-bit word indicating hardware, software, network configuration, and failure features for a corresponding one of the devices. The management entity processes the device fingerprints using different methods including statistical risk of failure scoring methods and machine learning risk of failure scoring methods, to produce from each of the methods a respective risk of failure for each device. The management entity combines the respective risk of failures for each device into a composite risk of failure for each device, ranks the devices based on the composite risk of failures for the devices, to produce a risk ranking of the devices, and outputs the risk ranking.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2020Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Nidhi Kao, Ulf Vinneras, John W. Garrett, Jr.

Patent number: 10826771Abstract: Techniques for system self-assessment using a state identity vector are described. In one embodiment, a method includes obtaining a policy that includes a combination of a plurality of features and a set of desired values for the features. The method also includes comparing the policy to a device fingerprint for a network device and determining compliance with the policy based on the comparison between the device fingerprint and the combination of features. The device fingerprint comprises a multi-bit word having a plurality of positions, with each position representing a feature associated with the network device. Upon determining that the network device is not in compliance with one or more features included in the combination of features of the policy, the method includes implementing a responsive action by the network device according to a schema that defines instructions for each feature represented by the plurality of positions in the device fingerprint.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2018Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: John W. Garrett, Jr., Brett Dunstan, Jeffrey Owen Apcar

Patent number: 8724625Abstract: A method of configuring a network access device connected to an access network connected to a plurality of service networks, the network device having a first network address allocated to a subscriber of services of a first service provider provided by a first service network, with a new network address allocated to a second subscriber of services of either the first service provider, or a second service provider provided by a second service network. The method comprises the steps of: sending a request from the network access device to the access network with user credentials for the second subscriber requesting access to the first service provider or a change to the second service provider; receiving a response from the access network; and initiating a network address change request using a configuration protocol.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2013Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Sean E. Carolan, John W. Garrett, Charles Robert Kalmanek, Jr., Han Q. Nguyen, Kadangode K. Ramakrishnan

Patent number: 6753887Abstract: Client software may be used in conjunction with services offered by several entities such as network service providers. A user interface of the client software presents brand indicia relating to the network service provider that is currently being used by the software. The software is configured by selecting entities with which the software will be used. Once the entities are selected, an instruction server is queried to determine the location of branding data to be presented to the user, and a branding data server is queried to retrieve the branding data. The brand indicia are presented to the user according to the branding data each time the corresponding entity is accessed.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2001Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Sean E.
