  • Patent number: 6668138
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for maintaining balanced communication channels evenly even with heavy increases in service demands are disclosed. The apparatus uses an arrangement of jumpers and unique connection panes which allow rapid changes in the distribution of similar circuits to achieve balanced loads.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 12, 2002
Date of Patent: December 23, 2003
    Assignee: Marconi Communications, Inc.
Inventors: George H. BuAbbud, Muneer Zuhdi, John W. Matthes
  • Patent number: 6542382
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a plurality of densely arranged electrically shielded communication panels includes a rack that supports at least two panels. The panels are supported adjacent to each other by the rack, and each panel includes at least two sides with a printed circuit on one side and a conductive sheet on the other side. In addition, the conductive sheet on each of the panels is coupled to an electrical connection point on the rack when the panel is placed in the rack. The two panels are placed in the rack such that the printed circuit of one of the panels is electrically shielded by the conductive sheet on another, closely aligned other one of the panels.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 2001
Date of Patent: April 1, 2003
    Assignee: Marconi Communications, Inc.
Inventors: George H. BuAbbud, John W. Matthes, Janet A. Bradshaw, Muneer Zuhdi

  • Publication number: 20020063924
Abstract: A Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) multi-media access system and method are provided in which voice, video and data signals are transported over a passive optical network (PON) between a central office location and a plurality of subscriber home network units (HNUs). Optical video distribution circuitry and telephony/data distribution circuitry at the central office location are included in the system and operate to send and receive CATV video, PBS video television, telephony and Packet data signals to and from the HNUs via the PON. Optical multiplexing/demultiplexing circuitry operating at the central office combines the video signals, which are operating at one optical wavelength, with the telephony/data signals, which are operating at a second, distinct optical wavelength. These combined optical signals are then transported over the PON to the HNUs.

  • Patent number: 6310784
Abstract: Apparatus and method for supporting a large number of densely arranged and electrically shielded panels are disclosed. To achieve shielding each panel has a grounded back plane which acts as shielding for circuitry on an adjacent panel as well as shielding for its own circuitry.
