  • Publication number: 20040093476
Abstract: A system for detecting/avoiding memory usage conflicts when generating and merging multi-threaded software test cases. Initially, a test case generator is given a unique segment of memory which it can use. A plurality of test cases are generated, one at a time, by the test case generator. When the first test case is generated, the memory segment used is noted. When each of the second through Nth test cases is generated, a memory segment of the same size as the first test case, but not overlapping that of the previously assigned test case(s), is assigned to each subsequent test case.

  • Publication number: 20040093537
Abstract: A system for indicating attempts by a computer program to free memory that is not currently allocated, as well as indicating allocated memory that is never freed. In a particular software program, the programmer includes code that prints a short debug message to a text file every time that a memory allocation or a free-memory operation takes place. After the program completes execution, the text file contains a list of messages indicating all occurrences of memory allocation or free-memory operations. An automated parsing function examines the text file and provides error indications when memory allocation or de-allocation errors are detected.

  • Publication number: 20040078699
Abstract: A system for preventing translation cache/translation register initialization conflicts in dual-threaded computer processor architecture test cases. When each test case is generated, the test case generator is given a number T representing the total number translation cache entries and translation register entries which it can use. A first test case thread and a second test case thread are generated to produce a number of translation register entries and the number of translation cache entries equal to a value of no greater than T/4. Each of the translation register entries for the first test case thread and for the second test case thread is then moved to mutually exclusive slots in a range from 0 through (T/2−1). Finally, the translation cache entries for the first test case thread are moved to mutually exclusive slots (T−1) through T/2.

  • Patent number: 6556798
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling image defects associated with overdrive or underdrive, and variations thereof, in an electrostatographic machine. A speed modifying force is transmitted to a conformable member that deforms in a nip, thereby inducing strains in the surface of the member at the nip which cancel or controllably reduce the strains caused by engagement in the nip. The speed modifying force may be an externally applied drag force or torque, and may be applied using an open loop or a feedback system including an electromagnetic brake, a motor, etc. The speed modifying force may be applied to a conformable member forming the nip through a redundant linkage of the system that employs gears or other suitable mechanisms.

  • Publication number: 20020114642
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for controlling image defects associated with overdrive or underdrive and variations thereof in an electrostatographic machine, the defects related to transfer and fusing of toner images. A speed modifying fore is transmitted to a conformable member that deforms in a nip, thereby inducing strains in the surface of the member at the nip which cancel or controllably reduce the strains caused by engagement in the nip. The speed modifying fore may be an externally applied drag force, such as for example a friction force, and may be applied using an open loop or a feedback system including an electromagnetic brake, a motor, etc. Alternatively, the speed modifying force may be produced by a controllable torque applied for example by a torque generator to an axle of a roller included in a frictionally driven system of rollers.

  • Patent number: 6134095
Abstract: A particularly configured aperiodic grid for a grid-controlled AC corona charger for uniformly charging a dielectric member, of an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus, moving along a travel path in operative relation to the corona charger. The corona charger includes an insulating housing and an electrically biased grid, in which the grid transparency is larger than a nominal transparency at the upstream edge of the charger grid, transparency is nominal at the center of the grid, and transparency is smaller than nominal at the downstream edge of a charger grid. The invention, which has been demonstrated for negative primary charging, preferably uses a trapezoidal AC waveform having a DC offset for corona excitation, and may be practiced over a large range of process speeds. The invention is also practiced using trapezoidal waveforms having negative duty cycles in the range 50% (conventional AC) to 90% (negative DC).

  • Patent number: 6038120
Abstract: A corona charger and method and apparatus for corona charging features an insulative shield and an electrically biased grid electrode spaced from the shield. One or more substantially bare corona wires are located between the grid electrode and the shield. The corona wires are electrically biased with an AC voltage. An electrically biased highly conductive buried floor electrode forms a part of the charger and has a surface located between the one or more corona wires and the shield. An insulating layer is located between the corona wires and the surface of the buried floor electrode so that there is no exposure of the buried floor electrode in a direct line of sight from a corona wire.

  • Patent number: 5966559
Abstract: A recording apparatus includes a toner image bearing member and a transfer backing member that define a transfer nip. Pressure is applied in the transfer nip to a receiver member that is in engagement with the toner image bearing member for transfer of a toner image on the toner image bearing member to the receiver member. A sensor senses a parameter related to thickness of the receiver member prior to movement of the receiver member into the nip. An adjustment device is responsive to sensing of the parameter and adjusts nip spacing between the toner image bearing member and the transfer backing member.
