Patent number: 7161560Abstract: A collar (10, 110) is placed around the neck of a user (14) and is rested on the user's shoulders (16) with forward end portions (18, 20, 122, 124) of said collar (10, 110) resting on an upper part of a user's chest. Riser arms (22, 24 or 138, 140, 134 and 142, 146, 150) extend from front end portions (18, 20 or 122, 124) of the collar (10, 100) to a video viewer (34, 130) that is positioned in front of the user's eyes. The riser arms may extend substantially straight upwardly from the front end portions (18, 20) of the collar (10, 110). Or, a lower portion (138, 140) of each arm may extend upwardly and rearwardly from the end portions (18, 20 or 122, 124) to about the level of the user's ears, and then an upper portion may extend forwardly and upwardly from that level to the video viewer (130). The collar (10, 110) and riser (12, 112) portions of the unit are foldable into a compact configuration for stowage.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2002Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Inventor: John W. Patent number: 6234446Abstract: A personal audio/visual device comprising a pair of normally spaced modules having lower contoured surfaces shaped to contact and be supported by the shoulders of a wearer. The two modules are coupled together at a back end thereof by a telescoping or folding structure adapted to allow horizontal adjustment between the modules. Integrated within each module are recessed audio speakers positionable adjacent the ears. In a preferred embodiment, the audio/visual device includes two pairs of submodules, each pair being coupled together by a hinge for pivoting movement within the same plane or scissoring movement in parallel planes. In an unfolded position, the lower submodules of the pairs rests on the shoulders of a wearer while the upper submodules touches the sides of a person's head and against the ears. In a folded position, the submodules are pivoted together and the telescoping or folding structure collapsed to minimize the space necessary to store the device.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1998Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Inventor: John W. Patterson

Patent number: 5727580Abstract: An apparatus and method for cleaning overhead gutters. The apparatus includes two inverted J-shaped members connected by a hinge at the apex. Each J-shaped member has a scoop depending downwardly from the apex and a handle arm depending downwardly from the apex, the handle arm being longer than the scoop. The J-shaped members are hinged such that rotating the handle arms toward each other causes the scoops to rotate toward each other thereby grasping debris therebetween. The scoops are pliable and ellipsoidal shaped and can have teeth or bristles. The hinge provides fulcrum type leverage for grasping and dislodging debris. The J-shaped members can be snapped into and out of the hinge. The gutter cleaner includes a coupling for connecting the cleaner to a garden hose through a valve. Water is channeled to a scoop where a baffle directs the water into the scoop and under debris to dislodge and consolidate debris.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1996Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Inventor: John W.
