  • Publication number: 20240033095
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for implant design and manufacturing to address stress shielding and/or implant fixation. The implant design and methodology may include accounting for the anatomy and quality of a bone of a subject to address stress shielding and/or implant fixation considerations for the subject. Implants or components may be asymmetrically designed to better match the associated anatomy as well as decrease stress shielding or improve implant fixation, such as by quantifying bone quality and matching properties of the implant or coatings of the implant to optimize engagement between the implant and the highest quality bone. Information derived from the methodology can be used to guide the design of the implant resulting in an asymmetric design that minimizes or eliminates stress shielding or improves implant fixation.

  • Publication number: 20220370141
Abstract: Methods for understanding external and internal anatomy of bones through the use of imaging data and 3D modeling to facilitate the design of anatomically correct plates, devices and implants are disclosed. In one aspect the method results in an implant or plate that includes at least one curved surface wherein a contour of the at least one curved surface corresponds to an anatomic shape of a subject. The anatomic shape of the subject being determined based on an image of the bone.

  • Publication number: 20220338998
Abstract: Glenoid components with asymmetric fixation points are provided. Also, methods and devices are provided for the optimization of shoulder arthroplasty component design through the use of medical imaging data, such as computed tomography scan data. The methodology may improve the understanding of glenoid anatomy through the use of medical imaging data and 3D modeling, and for glenoid components that exploit this methodology. The methodology provides for how anatomical features change based on the specific location in the glenoid. The methodology can optimize loading and fit at the bone-device interface. Asymmetrical glenoid components are provided with significantly improved initial fixation.
