  • Patent number: 4520334
Abstract: A solenoid (28) is mounted to a frame (26) secured to panel mounting clips (24) of a pushbutton switch for snap-on attachment to the switch housing (2). The switch has a hollow central chamber and a hole (32) is formed in the lower end (6) adjacent the solenoid (28) whereby an operator cap (10) may be removed and a headed coupling rod (34) inserted through the hollow chamber of the switch to project out the hole (32) for connection to the solenoid plunger (28b). The operator cap (10) is subsequently replaced to permit manual operation of the switch or remote operation wherein the solenoid (28) is energized to pull the pushbutton operator (4) to a depressed position.

  • Patent number: 4418254
Abstract: A pivoted operator d(4) for an electric switch has an inwardly extending actuating leg (4d) having direct connection with a contactor (12) to provide over-center pivoting and sliding motion for the contactor. The inner end of the actuating leg has a first slot (4f) wherein the actuator leg straddles the contactor and has grooved (4h) interior surfaces which receive outward lateral projections (12a) on the contactor for affecting a driving connection therebetween. The depending leg has a cylindrical recess (4e) which receives a helical compression spring (14) to bear between the operator and the contactor. Transversely aligned connection points (12a, 4h) actuator and contactor and the edges of the slot (4f) in the actuator cooperating with the lateral edges of the contactor (12) guide the latter throughout its longitudinal movement to prevent angular displacement in a horizontal plane of the contactor within the switch.

  • Patent number: 4291207
Abstract: A unitary, self-enclosed electric switch having a pivotally mounted subactuator (6) that actuates the contacts (18 ) and carries a locking element (24) that normally catches on the switch housing (4k) to lock the switch in "off" position. A combined actuator and lock release member (8) is snap-in mounted on the subactuator and has push-to-unlock means (8b, 8c, 22) that releases the off-lock to allow pivotal actuation of this actuator and the subactuator in unison from "off" to "on" position. This actuator is normally spring-biased (22) into ineffective position from which it must be pushed in to unlock the switch and is removable to prevent unauthorized use of the switch. The subactuator has an upward extension (6h) that serves as a handle to enable the switch to be moved from "on" to "off" position even when the actuator has been removed, this extension serving also to trap the actuator bias spring (22) to retain it in place when the actuator is removed.

  • Patent number: 4150268
Abstract: A pressure operated switch construction having a base carrying a pressure operated diaphragm and an electrical switch unit controlled by the diaphragm and an adjustable compression spring controlled by a cam operated actuator leaf pivotally carried by the base. The base has integral bracket members extending therefrom, each bracket member having an integral snap-in arrangement. A cam shaft unit is snapped into the snap-in arrangement of the bracket members to be rotatably carried thereby, the cam shaft unit having a cam for operating on the actuator leaf to position the same.

  • Patent number: 4008419
Abstract: A control device having a housing provided with a selector knob and dial arrangement adjacent the knob, the housing also having electrical terminals adjacent the knob and dial arrangement. A substantially flat protective shield is secured to the control device and covers the terminals, the shield having an opening passing therethrough to expose the dial arrangement and have the selector knob telescopically projecting therethrough. The selector knob has a tongue portion thereof overlapping the shield to hold the shield to the control device.

  • Patent number: 3995245
Abstract: A thermostat construction having a first contact and a blade-carried second contact supported in a generally cube-like housing and having a bimetal snap disc carried by the housing for controlling movement of the second contact relative to the first contact in response to snapped temperature sensing conditions of the disc together with temperature setting means carried by the housing for selecting the temperature of operation of the disc for moving the second contact out of contact with the first contact whereby the generally cube-like configuration of the housing renders the thermostat construction relatively small and compact.

  • Patent number: 3989914
Abstract: In an electrical switch construction having a movable switch blade carried in the chamber of a housing and being moved between operating positions thereof by movement of an actuator, an overtravel spring engaging against the blade and the actuator for moving the blade in unison therewith as the actuator moves in unison therewith in one direction to a predetermined position relative to the housing and for thereafter preventing further movement of the blade in the one direction even though the actuator is further moved in that one direction beyond the predetermined position. A plate is carried by the housing and has a pivot arm bent therefrom at an angle relative thereto for providing a pivot for a part of the switch blade. The housing has a slot for holding the plate immediately adjacent the bent angle of the pivot arm.

  • Patent number: 3973097
Abstract: A control device having a housing provided with a movable actuator and a rotatable selector shaft for positioning the actuator in relation to the rotational position of the shaft. An actuator driver is carried by the shaft and is operatively interconnected to the actuator to drive the same upon rotation of the driver by the shaft, the shaft and driver being axially movable relative to the actuator. The housing has a latching part cooperable with a latching part of the driver when the shaft is in a certain rotational and axial position relative to the housing whereby the shaft cannot be rotated relative to the housing until the shaft is axially moved from that certain axial position thereof to another axial position thereof to clear the latching part of the driver from the latching part of the housing and thereby unlock the selector shaft.

  • Patent number: 3944315
Abstract: A control device having a housing provided with a terminal that has a threaded screw member with its shank threadedly carried thereby for lead attachment thereto between an enlarged head of the screw member and the terminal. A resilient retainer clip is disposed between the head of the screw member and the terminal, the clip initially being under compression between the head of the screw member and the terminal to tend to hold the screw member in its threaded relation with the terminal. A lead is subsequently disposed between the clip and the terminal, the clip thereafter being disposed in a deformed condition against the lead to hold the lead to the terminal. The clip has a plurality of slots in the deformable portion thereof to render the same more deformable.
