Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing a personalized direct mail article requiring no envelope or other wrapper in the format of an oversized brochure having front and rear cover sheets, at least one interior sheet and a detachable preformed business reply envelope and at least one detachable reply device, all of which are joined to the cover sheets during mailing and all of which are formed from a single integral web to insure that there can be no mismatching of the several personalized elements forming the article.

The preformed reply envelope and reply device panel are folded to a superposed position on the card and secured to the card for mailing by releasable adhesive means. Abstract: A direct mail article in the form of a packet comprising a plurality of envelopes separably joined along a parting line at their longitudinal edges, as by perforations, each envelope containing at least one separate enclosure device, one or more of which envelopes and enclosure devices can be personalized, is produced from an integral web or sheet defining all of the envelopes and at least one of the separate enclosure devices. The direct mail packet is formed by folding the envelopes at the parting lines to position the envelopes one above the other. In one preferred embodiment, the direct mail article is formed from two webs, one of which defines all of the envelopes and an associated enclosure device for each envelope, and the second web defines one or more additional enclosure devices for at least one of the plurality of envelopes, the enclosures not being separated until after both have been folded into the envelope, thus ensuring that mismatching of personalized enclosures and envelopes does not occur.

Abstract: The subject invention provides a method of making a pocket folder having a plurality of page inserts from a pre-printed web. A first fold line is provided along a first transverse line which divides the web into integral folder and insert sections. A second fold line is provided along a second transverse line adjacent an end of the folder section opposite the insert section, thereby forming a folder pocket member. A third fold line formed along the longitudinal midline of the folder portion divides the folder portion into first and second cover sheets. The insert section is cut inside of and parallel to opposite longitudinal edges of the web to form lateral marginal portions. The insert portion is also cut adjacent to and parallel with the longitudinal center line to form a pair of insert pages separated by a medial marginal portion. The lateral and medial portions are removed and the insert pages are folded along the first transverse fold line to superpose the folder cover sheets.
