  • Publication number: 20170041776
Abstract: Methods and apparatus supporting multiple concurrent service contexts sharing a single connectivity context are disclosed. A device may initiate a radio link with a network node and establish a connectivity context with the network node over the radio link using a connectivity logical context of the device. The network node may receive, authenticate, and authorize context establishment requests. A first service context with a first service management entity may be established over the radio link using a first logical context of the device, where the first logical context is distinct from the connectivity logical context. Multiple service connections using multiple service contexts based on multiple logical contexts of the device may share the connectivity context and may be established over the radio link.

  • Patent number: 9560140
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose methods for identifying machine to machine (M2M) devices and services. Each device may indicate its M2M functionality either for each of the services performed by the device or for all of its services to a core network. • Publication number: 20160344635
Abstract: A gateway device detects a trigger associated with a device and, in response, identifies an application service associated with the device, obtains a traffic network policy associated with the application service, and obtains a network access token based on the traffic network policy. The network access token facilitates validating and/or mapping a downlink data packet obtained at the gateway device in user-plane traffic that is destined for the device. The network access token is sent to an entity in control-plane signaling. Subsequently, the gateway device obtains a downlink data packet including the network access token. The gateway device verifies the network access token and/or maps the downlink data packet to the device using data obtained from the network access token. The network access token may be removed from the downlink data packet before the downlink data packet is sent to the device according to the mapping.

  • Publication number: 20160337239
Abstract: A method, operational at a network device, for conveying congestion information across different strata of a multi-strata network is provided. An indication is obtained that a congestion level for at least one of a radio access network node and a core network node of a network has changed. Consequently, a one or more service parameters for a plurality of services, operating at a service stratum, are updated or adjusted on a per service basis based on the congestion level indication. The one or more service parameters are provided or sent to, at least one of, a node operating at a service stratum or a user device that obtains services over the network.

  • Patent number: 9497102
Abstract: Systems and methods for control and triggering of machine to machine (M2M) devices (e.g., smart meters). More specifically how to allow an M2M service provider (e.g., utility company) to use an operator's network to communicate with the M2M device connected with a UE/GW associated with the operator's network. The M2M service provider may receive identification of the UE/GW, but not for the M2M device. By transmitting an identifier for the M2M device along with an identifier for the UE/GW, the network operator may define establish and maintain a communication path specific to M2M devices. Similar techniques may be incorporated to allow the M2M service provider to locate and trigger the M2M device.

  • Publication number: 20160323425
Abstract: In various aspects, the disclosure provides for Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) encoding, including encoding an audio signal to obtain an encoded audio signal and a bitrate associated with the encoded audio signal; establishing a source format for the encoded audio signal based on the bitrate; reformatting the encoded audio signal with a pre-selected pattern to generate a packet, wherein a capacity of the packet is based on the source format. And, in various other aspects, the disclosure provides for EVS decoding, including obtaining a data rate associated with a packet; discarding one or more pre-selected patterns from the packet to recover an encoded audio signal based on the data rate; and decoding the encoded audio signal to generate a decoded audio signal.

  • Publication number: 20160269493
Abstract: A method, operational at a first node operating at a service stratum may include sending a request to establish a service hosted at a connectivity stratum. A response may include a first list of service parameters offered by a second node. The first node may send a second list of service parameters, selected from the first list, to the second node. The service may be established based on the second list. At a second node operating at a connectivity stratum, a method may include obtaining a request from a first node to establish a service hosted at the connectivity stratum. The second node may respond with a first list of service parameters offered by the second node to establish the service. A second list of service parameters, selected from the first list, may be obtained from the first node. The service may be established based on the second list.

  • Publication number: 20160248686
Abstract: A device establishes flows associated with one or more applications using control plane signaling. A gateway device obtains a request for a network token during the control plane signaling. The gateway device derives the network token and sends it to the device and/or an access node during the control plane signaling. The device and/or access node obtain the network token, where the network token is associated with a first flow of the one or more flows, a first application of the one or more applications, and provisioned to the device or access node via the control plane signaling. The network token may be included in a packet sent in the user plane from the device. The network token may be verified at the access node and/or the gateway device using a cryptographic function and sent to its destination based on the results of the verification.

  • Publication number: 20160204951
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide for yield management models for dynamically pricing access to wireless communication services. In some examples, access to a network is intermediated by a surrogate access point, which may act as a proxy or relay, expanding communication services to client devices that otherwise may lack a subscription, or may lack a suitable communication interface, to communicate directly with the wireless network. Here, the surrogate access point may be a subscriber device or user equipment. By utilizing the yield management model, the surrogate access point may receive compensation for sharing its connection to the network with nearby client devices. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Patent number: 9392528
Abstract: Access control techniques enable an access terminal to obtain service through an access point. In some aspects, access control techniques may be used to enable a user (e.g., an owner) of an access point to control whether an access terminal obtains service through the access point. For example, a user may temporarily disable access control at an access point to enable access points that register with the access point while access control is disabled to thereafter be allowed to obtain service through the access point. As another example, a shared secret may be provided to an access terminal whereby, upon presenting the shared secret to an access point, the access terminal is allowed to obtain service through the access point.

  • Publication number: 20160066261
Abstract: Provided is a method operable at a wireless communication device or user device for cost signaling. The user device may receive a first indication of an identity of a network. A second indication of whether a cost information is available may also received by the user device. The cost information may also be associated with the network and indicative of a cost of communicating data via the network. In addition, the user device may query the network for the cost information if the second indication indicates that the cost information is available. The cost information associated with the network may be received by the user device. The user device may select the network based on the received cost information. Communication via the selected network may then be performed by the user device.

  • Publication number: 20140376414
Abstract: Techniques to support emergency voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are described. The techniques may be used for various 3GPP and 3GPP2 networks, various location architectures, and various types of User Equipment (UE). A UE communicates with a visited network to send a request to establish an emergency VoIP call. The UE interacts with a location server instructed by the visited network to obtain a first position estimate for the UE. The UE performs call setup via the visited network to establish the emergency VoIP call with a PSAP, which may be selected based on the first position estimate. The UE may thereafter perform positioning with the location server to obtain an updated position estimate for the UE, e.g., if requested by the PSAP.

  • Publication number: 20140310402
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for reporting information in real time about traffic generated by each application for a device are described. In one aspect, the network can configure a list of applications user equipment (UE) devices need to report traffic information for and then when one of these applications starts a communication, the UE may send traffic descriptor(s) describing the traffic generated by the application. In this way the network can accurately identify the traffic and take actions based on UE report and local policy or subscription.
