  • Patent number: 9907006
Abstract: Systems and methods for adaptive access and handover configuration based on historical data are provided. Access and handover decisions are optimized in a multiple radio access technology environment using historical data associated with network performance. Future needs for access and handovers are predicted using historical data associated with the user and historical data associated with network performance. Performance metrics are received periodically or continuously from nodes in one or more networks at a centralized controller. The centralized multi RAT controller correlates these performance metrics and determines predicted handovers for a user device. Preparations for the predicted handovers can then be made prior to the handover event.

  • Patent number: 9762090
Abstract: A wireless transmitter is described herein that provides power wirelessly to an apparatus with high efficiency. For example, the wireless power transmitter may include a class E amplifier that is used as a gate driver for a main power amplifier. This advantageously enables power to be transmitted wirelessly with a 100% theoretical power efficiency and with minimal power loss. Furthermore, electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues are reduced because only low orders of harmonics are applied to the gate of the main power amplifier. A system that incorporates such a wireless transmitter and methods of operating the same are also described herein.

  • Patent number: 9735835
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed to increase the efficiency of communications between wireless power transfer (WPT) devices. During an initial power transfer and/or communication between WPT devices, characteristics regarding the operation and capabilities of the devices are shared and stored on one or both of the WPT devices. On subsequent power transfers and/or communications, a WPT device can quickly match the capabilities and preferences for the same WPT device. Various systems are presented to generate, access, and implement the stored information to quickly tailor and improve a communication session for a specific WPT device.

  • Patent number: 9730271
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing dynamic substream definition and handover are provided. In embodiments, a user device includes a multiple radio access technology (RAT) communications modules and a communication controller. Each RAT communication module is further configured to communicate using a different RAT. The user device identifies available networks for communication. Then, the controller determines whether a need to split a communications stream exists (e.g., the user device is engaged in a bandwidth intensive application). If the communications stream is to be split, the controller defines the substreams (either equally or unequally) and assigns a first substream to a communication pathway in a first available network and assigns a second substream to a communication pathway in a second available network. The destination then recombines the substreams. In embodiments, the controller inserts synchronization in the substreams.

  • Patent number: 9730002
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a mechanical chassis having one or more conductive regions separated by one or more non-conductive regions. When a magnetic field contacts, or is sufficiently proximate to, this communication device, the magnetic field induces one or more eddy currents that flow in one or more closed loops around a surface of the one or more conductive regions. The one or more non-conductive regions confine the one or more eddy currents to the one or more conductive regions. The magnetic fields generated by these one or more eddy currents are weaker than a magnetic field generated by eddy currents in a communication device having a mechanical chassis constructed entirely of conductive material.

  • Patent number: 9680326
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed to control the mutual coupling between wireless power transfer (WPT) enabled devices. Wireless power transfer is best achieved when both the transmitting and receiving device are tuned to substantially the same frequency. Because WPT-enabled devices are coupled to one another during WPT, tuning one WPT-enabled device can cause both devices to converge to a resonance together. Furthermore, a WPT-enabled receiving device can be intentionally detuned to avoid coupling excessive power from a WPT-enabled transmitter device. These concepts can be extended to WPT-enabled device pairs that each has WPT transmission and reception qualities. When multiple WPT-enabled devices interact, tuning information can be stored in one or both of the devices to make the configuration procedure for subsequent WPT interactions more efficient. Various systems are presented to control the mutual coupling between WPT-enabled devices to improve the WPT.

  • Patent number: 9674113
Abstract: A data bridge controls packet transfers between network fabrics forming a closed network, such as a vehicular network and a home network. The data bridge includes two or more sets of modules, each of which communicates with a different network fabric. When a packet is to be delivered between network fabrics, a first set of modules, which is used to communicate with a first network fabric, decides whether to accept the packet or discard it. If the packet is accepted, it is delivered to a second set of modules, which is used for communicating with a second network fabric. The second set of modules makes a second, independent decision about whether the packet will be sent to the second network fabric. Each set of modules can base its decision on packet content type, and may discard any packet not to be delivered to the other network.

  • Patent number: 9667322
Abstract: In a WPT system, varying parameters, such as coupling coefficient, may cause the system to fall out of resonance and/or tuning. By monitoring one or more signals within a coil module of the WPT device, this detuning can be detected. Moreover, the WPT system can retune itself by modifying one or more parameters in a transmitting WPT device and/or a receiving WPT device. For example, coil circuits in the transmitting and/or receiving WPT devices can be configured to allow for adjusting of effective capacitance, effective inductance, load resistance, and/or load inductance. In addition, frequency can be modified to permit adjusting power transfer efficiency.

  • Patent number: 9661626
Abstract: A wireless mobile communication (WMC) device may discover available networks, and available local and/or remote resources. The WMC device may configure routes utilizing one or more of discovered resources and one or more available networks. The routes may be utilized to performed operations requested via the WMC device. A standardized language and/or protocol may be utilized in discovering and/or communicating with available resources and/or networks. The standardized language and/or protocol may enable commonality among the discovered networks and/or resources, and encryption of data communicated through the established routes. The standardized language and/or protocol may be updated and/or modified to incorporate new resources either by direct interactions between the new resources and the WMC device, or via existing available resources and/or networks. The discovery of resources and/or establishment of routes may be user-triggered, or it may be based on user preference information.
