Patent number: 8590577Abstract: A ductmaking apparatus bends a metal web to form a duct blank having a lock seam with male and female portions. Prior to shearing off the duct blank, the apparatus bends the web to form a lock tab that secures the lock seam during subsequent handling of the duct blank.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2012Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Mestek Machinery, Inc.Inventors: Michael C. Borwig, John Welty

Patent number: 8458884Abstract: An apparatus for forming a duct includes a bending apparatus and a support apparatus. The bending apparatus includes a table, a cut off beam, and a leaf hinged to a forward edge of the table. The cut off beam is movable toward and away from the table to clamp or release a metal web being fed forward across the table and the leaf. The cut off beam repeatedly clamps the metal web to the table while the leaf pivots toward the cut off beam to form a duct section. The support apparatus includes a cross rod movable along pivoting support arms. As the metal web is bent to form the duct section, the support arms and the cross rod are moved to internally support the duct section.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2012Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Mestek Machinery, Inc.Inventors: Michael C. Borwig, Scott Sloan, Richard Burkart, Steven Kerska, John Welty

Remote control system for control of electrically operable equipment in people occupiable structures
Patent number: 5109222Abstract: A remote control system capable of controlling electrically operable equipment in a person occupiable structure and which has an essentially unlimited command format. The system comprises a signal receiving sensor such as an infrared sensor, and which can receive a signal from a remote control unit, typically a hand-held remote control unit. The infrared signal is processed to be compatible with electrically operable equipment as for example, sound entertainment system, electrical appliances or the like. A central computer or microprocessor is associated with the dwelling structure and receives a signal from the remote control unit, via the signal receiving sensor, and which computer generates a control signal for control and operation of the electrically operable equipment. The remote control system has an input means to receive the code format of each type of electrically operable equipment to thereby generate a format of encoded signals for each type of electrically operable equipment.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1989Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Inventor: John Welty
