Patent number: 10087973Abstract: A U-clip assembly for a securing a component to an edge of a panel having an aperture therethrough. The U-clip assembly includes a U-shaped body with a back support member and a front support member each extending transversely from a base for straddling the edge of the panel. A cylinder extends from a lower surface of the base and together definite a first bore for threadedly receiving a screw. The back support member defines a retaining tab for engaging the aperture of the panel. The front support member defines a pair of slots to define a central portion therebetween and two outer portions with the central portion extending to a blade for engaging a face of the panel to secure the body thereupon and with each of the outer portions defining secondary clamping members for engaging the same face of the panel and further secure the body thereupon.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2016Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: A. RAYMOND ET CIEInventors: John Wilusz, Bradley S. Axelson

Patent number: 9562554Abstract: A retainer assembly for retaining a panel to a component. The retainer assembly includes a base defining a bore for receiving a screw. A pair of front and back support members each have a first section connected to the base, and a second section that overlies the bore for flexing outwardly in response to being engaged by the screw. A front and back primary retention member each extend outwardly from the front and back support members for holding the retainer assembly relative to the panel. A pair of front and back secondary retention members each extend outwardly from the first section of the front and back support members. The front and back secondary retention members terminate closer to the base than the front and back primary retention members to establish an interference fit between the retainer assembly and the panel prior to the screw being driven through the retainer assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2015Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: A. RAYMOND ET CIEInventors: David J. Vidal, John Wilusz, Brad S. Axelson

Publication number: 20080028577Abstract: A two stage spring clip for moveably fastening a first substrate to a second substrate through an aperture. The clip is comprised of an insert nose portion with outwardly tapered legs to form a first retaining portion. The first retaining portion has a first retaining shoulder that extends at a first angle that is substantially perpendicular to a centerline. The outwardly extending legs extend from said first retaining shoulder to form a second retaining shoulder. The second retaining shoulder extends from said centerline at a second angle that is less than the angle of the first retaining shoulder. The legs are further equipped with stop flanges that extend from the outwardly extending legs at an angle that prevents the over insertion of the spring clip into an aperture by acting as a stop against the sides of said aperture. The outwardly extending legs terminate in opposed flanges and during deployment of an air bag side curtain.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2006Publication date: February 7, 2008Inventors: Mangesh Soman, Kevin Chavez, Tom Schrag, Bill Barrett, John Kosidlo, Aaron Pokowski, Michael Danby, John Wilusz

Publication number: 20070224018Abstract: The present invention provides a fastener device having a threaded screw, a retainer clip having two clamping sections, a threaded nut, and a securing member. The nut is capable of engagement with the screw to provide simultaneous clamping force to the clamping sections.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2007Publication date: September 27, 2007Inventors: Charles DePerro, John Kosidlo, Mike Danby, John Wilusz

Patent number: 5893694Abstract: A caged nut fastener (100) is provided that features a first arm (6) in overhanging substantially parallel spaced-apart relationship to a base portion (4) defining a cage therebetween. Arm (6) has an opening (20) therethrough having a breadth "B" through which is received a tubular end portion (18) and a portion of a frusto-conical projection (16) extending from a base (14) having a planar surface (15) in facing sliding engagement with base portion (4). The breadth of the frusto-conical projection (16) within opening (20) is sufficiently less the breadth (B) to enable the nut member to move substantially the same distance in any direction transverse to a central rotational axis ("C") extending through a threaded bore (22) in portion (18) of the nut member.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1997Date of Patent: April 13, 1999Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: John Wilusz, David J. Vidal, Jeffrey J. Cornell, Robert B. Nita

Patent number: 5774949Abstract: A clip (100) is provided that is adapted to be pressed into an opening (32) through a frame (30) with resilient fingers (12) and (12') operative to expand outwardly to enable sections (15) and (15') of fingers (12) and (12') to engage a lower edge (33) surrounding opening (32) through frame (30). A protuberance (26) extending from trim 24 is pressed between free-ends (18) and (18') respectively of prongs (16) and (16') extending from opposite sides of an aperture (22) through head portion (8) of clip (100) that are operative to secure trim (24) to clip (100) and frame (30). Fingers (12) and (12') extend from arms (10) and (10') of clip (100) whose free-ends (14) and (14') remain separated such that the lower end of clip (100) remain apart to prevent force imparted upon trim (24) from being transferred to clip (100).Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1997Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Jeffrey J. Cornell, Robert B. Nita, David J. Vidal, John Wilusz
