  • Publication number: 20090214309
Abstract: An improved cutting tool for drilling complex holes in a workpiece such as an automotive aluminum wheel, in which the tool has a shank and an integrally formed support section. A cutter insert secured in the support section. The cutter insert is formed with opposed flutes along the longitudinal axis of the tool. The tool is improved by reducing cutting forces and optimizing chip disposal, thereby cutting costs by reducing the load requirements for drilling holes, and this is accomplished by creating a positive rake angle at the flutes.

  • Patent number: 5570978
Abstract: A high performance cutting tool for drilling complex holes in a work piece comprising a body having a shank for rotating the tool with a drilling machine, an intermediate flute portion having a plurality of straight flutes formed thereon, and a forward, nose portion. A unitary insert having a plurality of cutting edges formed thereon is received in a slot formed in the cutter tool so as to be driven thereby in a manner which permits cutting of a complex hole in a work piece when the cutting tool is rotated in the work piece.
