Patent number: 9206549Abstract: The invention relates to a steel-made Yankee cylinder (1) that comprises a cylindrical shell (2) having two axial ends (3, 4). An end wall (5, 6) is connected to each axial end (3, 4) by a circumferential weld bead (7). The cylindrical shell has an inner surface (8) in which circumferential grooves (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d, 9e) are formed. From the outermost circumferential groove (9a) at each axial end (3, 4) to the circumferential weld bead (7) at that axial end (3, 4) the wall thickness (T) of the cylindrical shell is either constant or decreasing and the depth (d1) of the circumferential grooves increases axially from the outermost circumferential groove (9a).Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2013Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: Valmet AktiebolagInventors: Jonas Cederloef, Hans Ivarsson, Andreas Hjaertqvist, Magnus Hoegman, Stefan Moden, Johnny Anerud, Stefan Thyberg, Sune Wendelsson, Martin Raedman, Anna Danielsson

Patent number: 8959790Abstract: A device for positioning a drain pipe (6) of a draining system in a drying cylinder (1), the jacket (2) of which has inner circumferential grooves (3) for condensate which is formed as a result of heat transfer, said draining system comprising an outlet means and a plurality of drain pipes which are connected to the outlet means, wherein the draining system removes the condensate from the grooves via the drain pipes and the outlet means, wherein the device has a pipe positioner (14) which is disposed in an end portion (12) of the drain pipe located closest to the outlet means, said pipe positioner comprising a mounting device (15) for mounting the drain pipe onto the outlet means, and a lockable connection (16) that connects the drain pipe to the mounting device (15). According to the invention, the lockable connection is a joint connection, which defines a fulcrum for pivoting of the drainpipe in a plane to enable positioning of the drain pipe relative to the bottom surface of the groove.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2011Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Valmet ABInventor: Johnny Anerud

Publication number: 20030178406Abstract: A thermal roll for efficiently transferring heat to or from a web is provided. The thermal roll includes a rotatable outer shell having a cylindrical outer mantle and a stationary inner shell within the rotatable outer shell. An annular space is defined between an inner surface of the rotatable outer shell and an outer surface of the stationary inner shell. The annular space of a relatively low volume is filled with a heat exchange fluid, such as oil or water, that exchanges heat with a fibrous web through the mantle of the rotatable outer shell. The low volume of the annular space enables high heat transfer rates to the web and quick and efficient changes to the temperature of the heat exchange fluid. The thermal roll is adaptable for use as various types of rolls, such as calender rolls, press rolls, drying cylinders, and Yankee cylinders.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2002Publication date: September 25, 2003Applicant: METSO PAPER KARLSTAD ABInventors: Gustaf Per-Arne Nyman, Johnny Anerud
