  • Patent number: 6968382
Abstract: A system, computer program product and method for activating a volume group without a quorum of disks in the volume group being active. A first node, e.g., main server, may send a meta data identifier to a second node, e.g., backup server, upon completion of updating the meta data associated with a plurality of disks in a particular volume group shared by both first and second nodes. If the first node becomes inoperative, e.g., crashes, after sending the meta data identifier to the second node, then the second node may take over the functions of the first node by activating one or more volume groups shared by both the main and backup nodes. The second node may activate a particular volume group by identifying a single disk that is active in that particular volume group based on the meta data identifier associated with that particular volume group.

  • Patent number: 6910188
Abstract: A system, computer program product and method for viewing changes to a shared document in a single object. Upon executing a particular shared document to be opened by a particular user, the particular user may view at least a section of the original version of the document with one or more on-screen symbols, e.g., icons, in a single object. The one or more on-screen symbols may be associated with one or more users who made changes to the original version of the document. By selecting one of the one or more on-screen symbols, a menu may appear with one or more versions of the original document written by the user associated with the on-screen symbol. Upon selecting a particular version, at least a section of the original version of the document may appear with highlighted changes that indicate the changes made to the original version of the document in the selected version.

  • Patent number: 5519869
Abstract: An archive command detects an original storage device density value from the device and changes the device's density to a ROM density required by system ROM to read a bootstrap image. The bootstrap image from the system, as well as the original density value stored in a density file, are then written to the storage media in the ROM density required for system restoration by the IPL. The system then reads its copy of the original density value, changes the storage device parameters to their original value, and writes the desired additional system image or other software to the device media in the original device density. When restoration of the thus-archived bootstrap image or other software is required, during system IPL the system ROM will read the bootstrap file from the media stored in the correct ROM density required by the system ROM.
