  • Publication number: 20080134332
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for screening data packets. A determination is made as to whether a signature of a trusted security element is present in a header of the data packet in response to receiving a data packet. The signature indicates that a previous security action has been performed on the data packet. • Patent number: 7380129
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for authorizing a user to access grid resources. A request is received from the user to access a resource on the data processing system. This request includes a certificate. An authentication process is performed using the certificate when the request is received. In response to successfully authenticating the user in the authentication process, a first host name for the certificate is requested from a trusted source. A reply containing the first host name is received. Access to the resource is provided if the first host name returned by the trusted source matches a second host name for the user from which the request originated.

  • Publication number: 20080104505
Abstract: In response to a user marking a plurality of regions within a document of the application program, the application establishes a corresponding plurality of sections of the document including at least a first section and second section. In response to user selection of one or more toolbars from among a plurality of toolbars available within the application program, the application associates a first customized toolbar view with the first section and a second customized toolbar view with the second section, where the first and second customized toolbar views include different sets of the plurality of toolbars. In response to user navigation of the document to cause the sequential display of multiple ones of the plurality of sections of the document, the application automatically presents the first customized toolbar view when the first section of the document is displayed and automatically presenting the second customized toolbar view when the second section of the document is displayed.

  • Patent number: 7363513
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for responding to a denial of service attack. The method comprising from a remote data processing system detects an occurrence of the denial of service attack in which invalid credentials are presented to the data processing system. Connections from the remote data processing system to the data processing system are blocked in response to detecting the occurrence of the denial of service attack. A command is selectively sent to a server data processing system to block connections from the remote data processing system, in response to detecting the occurrence the denial of service attack.

  • Patent number: 7356566
Abstract: A method, system, and program for selective mirrored site access from a communication are provided. When composing a communication, multiple mirrored site addresses are embedded with a target site address. The sender may request to enter the mirrored site addresses or a browser supplies the mirrored site addresses. At each client system receiving the communication, selections of site addresses accessible for each intended recipient are detected. Thus, each client system, when outputting the communication, displays the selection of mirrored site address accessible to the intended recipient accessing that client system.

  • Patent number: 7349988
Abstract: Enabling the user to link a selected sequence of hypertext World Wide Web (Web) documents into a string and to store the string at his receiving Web display station so that these documents will be available for his use. An implementation at a receiving display station is provided for designating a received Web document as a starter document and for selecting a subsequently received Web document as a first next document. An implementation is provided for creating a hyperlink in the starter document to the first next document, together with means for storing said starter and next documents at said receiving display station. The invention further provides for an extension of the selected documents into a string through selecting one or more subsequently received Web documents as a subsequent next document and creating a hyperlink in the first next document to the subsequent next document.

  • Publication number: 20080065581
Abstract: A method of data processing in a data processing system includes an operating system shell receiving a command identifying a target executable. In response to receiving the command, the operating system shell determines whether or not a directory re-order option is set. In response to determining that the directory re-order option is set, the operating system shell locates the target executable by searching one or more file system directories for the target binary executable in accordance with an order indicated by a set of dynamic weights associated with directories among said one or more file system directories. The set of dynamic weights is then updated based upon the determined location of the target executable in the file system.

  • Publication number: 20080065826
Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable program code are provided for migrating a persistent cache. A priming request is received at an intermediary to prime the persistent cache of a first partition. Data is moved from a disk to the persistent cache and, responsive to the data being moved to the persistent cache, an unmounting command is issued to unmount a first file system in the first partition from the persistent cache. A mounting command is then issued to mount a second file system in a second partition to the persistent cache, wherein the second partition may now use the data contained in the persistent cache.

  • Publication number: 20080059586
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus and computer usable program code for processing e-mail messages. In response to a selection of a particular e-mail message from a sender as being undesired, a message identifier is stored in the e-mail message, wherein the message identifier uniquely identifies the e-mail message and any subsequent replies based on the e-mail message. Further, in response to receiving another e-mail message, the another e-mail message is processed using a policy to filter out e-mail messages containing the message identifier, wherein subsequent e-mail messages from the sender without the message identifier are unfiltered.

  • Patent number: 7313616
Abstract: A World Wide Web (Web) distribution site for accessing a plurality of Web documents from a database through a distribution system comprising a plurality of server computers of different computer powers wherein server computers are designated for documents based upon document weights calculated for the Web documents. The system has means for determining a document weight for each of said plurality of Web documents, which include means for counting the total number of bytes of 15 data representing the content of each of said documents, means for assigning a complexity weight to programs in each of said plurality of documents, and means for multiplying the byte total for each Web document by the complexity weight of the Web document. Based upon said 20 document weights, the system provides means for designating the server computers for said respective Web documents.

  • Patent number: 7308578
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for authorizing execution of an application on the data processing system. A request is received to execute the application, wherein the request originates from a remote data processing system and wherein the request includes a digital certificate and the application. The digital certificate is verified in response to receiving the request. Responsive to verifying the digital certificate, a digital digest is calculated for the application to form a calculated digital digest. The calculated digital digest is compared with a set of digital digests from a trusted source. The application is executed if a match between the calculated digital digest and set of digital digests occurs.

  • Patent number: 7298831
Abstract: A method, system, and program for automated distribution of an instant messaging request for an unavailable intended recipient to a backup recipient are provided. A chat support system detects a particular messaging request from a requester for initiating a communication with an intended recipient who is unavailable to respond to the messaging request and, in response, the chat support system selects a backup recipient designated to receive the particular messaging request. The chat support system then directs the opening of a communication channel for a messaging session between the requester and the backup recipient. Then, the chat support system detects a message log of at least one message entry for the messaging session between the requester and the backup recipient.

  • Patent number: 7295657
Abstract: A method, system, and program for automated selection of a backup recipient and distribution of an instant messaging request to the backup recipient are provided. A communication support system detects a messaging request initiated by a requester for an intended recipient. The communication support system determines whether the intended recipient is available to respond to the messaging request from the requester. If the intended recipient is unavailable to respond to the messaging request from the requester, the communication support system searches at least one of a directory entry, a backup directory entry, and a schedule entry for the intended recipient to identify a designated backup for the messaging request.
