  • Patent number: 10541768
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform simultaneous uplink activity for multiple RATs in the same carrier using multiplexing at a layer above the physical layer. The wireless device may establish wireless links with first and second base stations, respectively, according to first and second radio access technologies (RATs), respectively. The first base station may provide a first cell operating in a first system bandwidth and the second base station may provide a second cell operating in a second system bandwidth. • Patent number: 10531391
Abstract: A device and method for power saving between a scheduling request and a grant. A user equipment (UE) establishes a connection to a network, the UE and the network may be configured with a Connected Discontinuous Reception (C-DRX) functionality, the C-DRX functionality including a cycle with at least one onDuration. The UE transmits, during a first subframe a scheduling request (SR) to the network, the SR corresponds to data that is to be transmitted by the UE. The UE determines a second subframe for the UE to enter an active mode of processing for a reception of a grant, the second subframe is subsequent to the first subframe and prior to a next onDuration. The UE initiates an active mode of processing for the reception of the grant during the second subframe.

  • Patent number: 10447414
Abstract: A user of a device desires that geographic position information of the device be kept private. A network may track a geographic position of a device using timing advance (TA) data and also a passive attacker may attempt to track the geographic position of the device by observing base station TA commands. In embodiments provided herein, a device diminishes or obfuscates geographic position information by using a timing change value while not disturbing synchronization of uplink signals from multiple devices arriving at a base station. To resist an averaging solution by an observer, the device in some embodiments adjusts the timing change value based on an internal timer. In an emergency call situation, the method permits the base station to obtain geographic position information based on TA procedures.

  • Publication number: 20190313382
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to control data for retransmissions in wireless communications. In various embodiments, a UE sends acknowledgements (e.g., HARQ acknowledgements) at code block group (CBG) granularity. CBGs may be included in codewords that may be transmitted using multiple MIMO layers. In some embodiments, the network is configured to send a new data indicator for each CBG. In some embodiments, the network is configured to use a different number of layers for a retransmission of a CBG than for the original transmission. Thus, the layer-to-CBG or layer-to-codeword mapping may be specified dynamically. In various embodiments, the disclosed techniques may improve overall network bandwidth relative to traditional retransmission techniques.

  • Publication number: 20190313350
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for performing timing synchronization between a base station and a user equipment device within an unlicensed spectrum band. In some scenarios, beamforming tracking may also be performed. Upon determining that a transmission medium within the unlicensed spectrum band is available for transmission, a base station may transmit a plurality of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs), or a plurality of copies of one SSB, with associated remaining minimum system information (RMSI) blocks, within a single time instance within a SSB burst window. The SSBs may be transmitted at different frequency positions and according to distinct beamforming configurations. The SSBs and RMSI blocks may be configured such that a receiving user equipment device may determine the time-domain, and optionally the frequency-domain, position of the SSB and RMSI within the SSB burst window, to allow timing synchronization and optionally beamforming tracking.

  • Publication number: 20190281546
Abstract: A base station and mobile device (UE) may coordinate transmission of reference signals and reception of corresponding channel state information (CSI) reports. If a periodic reference signal is scheduled for transmission outside the on-duration period of the UE, even if the reference signal corresponds to a periodic CSI report scheduled to be transmitted by the UE during the on-duration period, the base station may not transmit the periodic reference signal, thereby allowing the UE not to prematurely exit a low-power state. The base station may instead transmit an aperiodic reference signal at a specified point in time later than the scheduled transmission of the periodic reference signal. The UE may receive the aperiodic reference signal and either transmit the periodic CSI report or an aperiodic CSI report in response, depending on how close to the start of the on-duration period the transmission of the periodic CSI report is scheduled.
