  • Patent number: 4781615
Abstract: A cable terminating cover retention system having two terminating covers (68, 70), each having leg means (72, 74) proximate the endwalls (90, 92) thereof, cooperate with an aperture (45) in a terminal support block (44) of connector housing (28). As conductors (56) are terminated on insulation displacement contacts (20) by moving the terminating covers (68, 70) toward the terminal support block (44), the leg means (72, 74) complement each other to substantially fill the aperture (45) and engage the sidewalls (102) of the apertures (45) in a first interference fit. As termination of the conductors (56) is completed, each leg means (72, 74) enters a recess or aperture (124, 126) in the other cable terminating cover (70, 68) and engages a protrusion (128, 130) therein in a second interference fit.

  • Patent number: 4648665
Abstract: An electronic key assembly comprising an insulating plug body having a front mating end for receipt in a jack and a rearwardly spaced, chip carrier receiving cavity. A series of contacts having first contact portions are mounted in body recesses at the mating end for engagement with spring contacts of a complementary jack and second spring contact portions which extend into the cavity are for engagement with respective leads of a chip carrier received therein. Releasable latch arms extend rearwardly from the mating end and, in some examples, a sleeve-form shield moulded or latched in the fingerpiece is received on the body to surround a rear end and the chip carrier. Anti-overstress hooks or eyes extending from the fingerpiece hook over the latch arms to prevent excessive movement of the latch arms away from the body.

  • Patent number: 4601530
Abstract: Discrete wires are unraveled from a bundle of wires and assembled in respective passageways (12) in an electrical connector housing (11) by preloading the wires into a wire holder (21) which locates the leading ends of the wires at the same pitch as the passageways (12) but in staggered relation. The wire holder (21), supported by the wires, is then inserted into and along a mouth (14) of the housing (11) until it abuts a tapering throat (13) at the entrance to the passageways (12). Further advance of the bundle feeds the discrete wires through the wire holder (21) into the respective passageways (12) guided by the throat (13).

  • Patent number: 4508399
Abstract: A polarized ribbon cable connector which facilitates the placement of electrical or circuit components therein is taught. Briefly stated, a housing lower assembly is profiled to receive a carrier strip therein. The carrier strip has bent up portions which provide for insulation displacement connection with electrical wires. An intermediate assembly is disposed on top of the carrier strip with a channel therein to receive a ribbon cable. A housing top assembly is disposed on top of the ribbon cable and has latches which mate with tabs contained on the lower assembly thereby interlocking various components together. The carrier strip also has contact legs disposed therein which allow for electrical contact to be made with pads contained in an insertable logic package. Knockout pin apertures disposed in the lower assembly allow portions of the carrier strip to be electrically isolated from the contact legs.

  • Patent number: 4357510
Abstract: One-piece stamped and formed switch device which is intended for mounting on a circuit board comprises an elongated flat base having mounting tabs or posts extending from its ends. A flange extends from one of the ends in the opposite direction from the direction of the mounting tabs and provides a fixed contact surface. A cantilever spring is integral with the base portion at the opposite end and extends alongside the base portion past the flange. In use, the switch device is mounted on the circuit board by inserting the mounting tabs through holes in the circuit board. Thereafter, an intermediate portion of the base is removed by shearing so that the remaining portions are electrically isolated from each other and the spring arm can be engaged with the flange to close a circuit between the conductors on the underside of the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4314312
Abstract: A circuit programming means for establishing a desired circuit pattern selected from a variety of circuit options comprises a circuit board having a plurality of side-by-side circuit board conductors thereon. A conductive connector clip is mounted on the circuit board in straddling relationship to the conductors and has contact springs extending therefrom which are in alignment with the conductors. A removable insulating program control means is positioned between a number of the springs and their associated circuit board conductors, the insulating means having openings so that at least two of the contact springs are in electrical contact with their associated conductors. The selected circuit pattern can be changed by merely moving the program control means and inserting a different program control means to commonly connect those conductors which will produce the desired circuit option.

  • Patent number: 4298243
Abstract: Pre-insulated flag-type terminal device comprises a flag-type contact terminal and a housing which completely encloses the terminal. The terminal has a tubular crimp portion and a contact portion which extends laterally from the crimp portion. The width of the contact portion is the same as that of the crimp portion. The housing comprises a molded part having a terminal-receiving section and a laterally extending wire-receiving housing arm. An opening extends through the arm and communicates with the terminal-receiving cavity in the terminal-receiving portion. The crimp portion has a wire-receiving end which is immediately adjacent to the inner end of the wire-receiving opening.
